do you file your fingernails after cutting them?

I assume that most of us cut our own fingernails. There's no escaping that, unless you're into chewing them down. :)
Question is, do you file your fingernails after cutting them? or do you just cut them and stop there? Guess this could depend on what your nail quality is. some are brittle, others are strong. some feel sharp after being cut, others are 'thick' and not sharp edged even after being freshly clipped.
How about toenails? Do you file them after clipping with a nail cutter?
For your kids, if you have some, do you file them so that they don't scratch themselves?
I think filing can be quite an art. I seem to do mine quite badly. I much prefer the sandpaper type files to metal nail files. How about you?

Most of the time I will check if the nails have a sharp edge after cutting them. If they do, I will file them a little to remove the sharp edges. This is to prevent scratching myself or my clothes later. I like dry fit clothes and sharp nails are a big no no around them.
Same goes for the toe nails. Usually filing is done.
I guess I would do the same for my kids when I have kids. ;)
I usually use the default file that comes with the cutter.

Sometimes i do, if I can be bothered. Other times i just trim them with the nail clipper and leave it at that. I love it though when I get pampered at a salon and have a manicure or pedicure. Feels so nice when others do it and leaves my nails and skin feeling really nice!

Sure I do. I don't when I am younger but when you are older, the need becomes evident. - I used to wonder why those older than me (when I was little) need to file their fingernails.
Same for toenails.
And I don't spend 1 hour filing the nails. It's just a quick exercise to blunt the edges.

I always file mine after clipping them. If I don't they tend to chip really bad. I have fine nails from years of nail biting so I try my best to keep them well groomed and healthy. I always follow clipping and filing with a clear coat of paint.

As a guy it is not something I do and for the most part don't feel a need for it. But recently I got some running shoes that have a seam on the inside that runs right across where the nail of my big toe is and this causes a hole to be "cut" very quickly in my socks. So I have started filing the nail on my big toes to get them shorter and less sharp and on top of that I have to put a piece of tape on the sock over the big toe.

yeah... sometimes it can wear down the inside of the shoe too. time to darn the sock instead of taping it!

I always file my nails after cutting or trimming since i have long nails. I don't wanna cut myself because of the sharp edges. Its much more neat and clean when filing also you can shape up your nails the way you like it as for me square tip fits my hands.

normally I don't bother filing my nails after I cut them, as they are strong and smooth, but if one breaks/rips off, I normally have to file down the serrated edge or I scratch myself.
