What is the history of clothing? What is the point of clothing? would you rather live in a world where it is natural to be naked?

In the Garden of Eden, the first man & woman were naked and it was beautiful and they were no problems attached because there was no sin in the world and man was pure and not a sinner. With the eating of the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil man becamme a sinner by nature and choice. Because of that the Bible says that they were ashamed. The guilt of sin and the effects of sin changed everything. They hid from God and used fig leaves to cover themselves up. The fig leaves were not enough and they were indeed immodest. So God made an animal sacriifce to atone for their sin and used the skins of the animals to properly cover their bodies up.

Hi Fightingistheonlyway, To answer your questions: 1. So did the tree of knowledge make them smart? Were they dumb before? The forbidden tree was called the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. It was not designed to make a person smart, in fact the issue at hand was not smart vs dumb. It was wisdom vs foolishness. It as a moral test placing before Adam & Eve a moral dillema to prove that their holy nature would produce a holy character forever. They did fail as would I and you. 2. If they were dumb, why were they curious enough to eat from the tree? The Bible clearly states that Eve was deceived (1Tim.2:11-15)In other words she really thought that his tree was going to help her to be a better person and to somehow become a god. Adam knew better and as the representative of the race , when he fell in sin the entire race fell with him. I do not think the issue was being dumb, the curiousity was placed before them as a test and Satan used that to entice Eve to eat the fruit. She in turn gave some to Adam who should have know better.

Were the first man and woman ashamed of being different from each other? Were they ashamed of being different from God? Is the sin shame or pride? Did the first man tell the first woman to put something on? What happened?

For two reasons I can think of.. 1) To keep society together by removing some of the temptation. I know many can look at a naked person and not feel anything, but many more the majority I think, get aroused at exsposed genitals. 2) Clothing helps protect us from the weather and the suns rays. It also protects us from things like bugs and poison ivy. Last, think of diseases that can be transmitted from use of public seating, YUCK! To answer the question would I rather be naked? No mainly because of #2. The health risks of it.

theres no way for you to be aroused 24/7 anyway... plus, people who dont have "ideal bodies" (dont wana offend anyone) will like, "remove the arousal"

OK ok you both make great points there, especially the one about not having good bodies, LOL. I was just posting off the top of my head, so I can admit that wouldn't be a good one. But I did say I wouldn't do it for the health risks from it. So give me a cookie for that one guys. :oD

When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of good and evil they suddenly saw themselves as naked and covered themselves so that God could not see them. It was at that time also when they first started using animal skins to cover them instead of fig leaves.

the bible gives a reference to why we wear clothes, but I guess it depends if you see that as a history or not. When Adam ate the apple Eve offered, one of the punishments, was that they realized they were naked and were ashamed to be naked. =)

Clothing is a part of our evolutionary process as humans. It can bring great happiness and joy by making us feel good because we look good. Clothing can also be negative, bullying for instance, just because you're not wearing the 'right' clothing. When humans first started wearing clothes, they wore very little. Over the millenniums, more and more was added, in the name of modesty. Today it seems that this is now in reversal and people are wearing less and less.

I enjoy as little clothing as possible if I can get away with it. However, there are times of the year where it's just too cold to be naked all the time. Also, I think clothes reflect people's personalities, their desires and aspirations, their beliefs and ideals. I think if humans were supposed to be naked, we'd have alot more hair on our bodies. We've evolved to the kind of bodies we have, now, and sometimes clothing is needed, for various reasons. I'm at the age, too, where I'd rather wear clothes, than go naked. I just look better with clothes on.
