A social network comprises of a group of friends and acquaintances that share similar interests, careers or both. Building an effective social network will mean that you will always have contacts to help you with your personal or career endeavors Never 'snub' anyone that is introduced to you. You may not like the way that they dress, act, or even look, but one of the people in your social network cares about them, so be very courteous when meeting a new contact. You don't have to stay in touch with them, but you should be polite--always! Also, do not be judgemental, you could be meeting someone who will become one of your best friends. NEVER contact old friends and try to sell them something if you haven't spoken with them in some time. This can be a HUGE turn-off and may cost you a friendship. If you wish to share a business plan with an old friend, get close to them again first. Always carry business cards. They have your contact information on them and are an easy way to give your information to people you would like to hear from again. Do not be afraid to leave your comfort zone. If you are at a party, don't just stand in the corner. Just make small talk with people. Soon, you will be in a full blown conversation that may lead to a closer relationship
