When you were leaving the school/college/workplace? Did you ever get a feeling that farewell speeches make you return to the fold once again?

When I planned to leave my first working unit in 1994 after I had found another teaching job in Guangzhou, which could offer me much higher salary, my headmaster came to my hometown--Ganzhou City, which is three hours far from my school, to persuade me into going back to work in the same school with a lot of nice and kind words from morning hours till later afternoon. I was moved by his words and I told him the reason why I chose to leave, but later I followed him to school that day when evening was on the way. But I promised to work for another three years, no more.
Kind speech made me return to the same school to work for another three years before I left again for my present school, which offers me much higher salary and more space for development.
The same thing happened to me here in my second school when I made up my mind for another school, which was urging me to work there after my being interviewed. My boss and Ms. Boss talked to me for many hours trying to persuade me to stay working for them, and they succeeded in keeping me and I have never thought about going to other school again, at least up till now.
I feel very happy working here as I have been greatly valued by my boss and I am quite willing to work for his school to help gain more good reputation from having my students take part in different kinds of English contests, which makes the school famous for this in English speech contest. I am proud of my students who are so great in winning the contests and my training job to them.
So a nice and kind farewell with some practical value can really keep someone from leaving the place that he has decided to and even make more contributions to the same working place.
Thanks for your discussion that reminds me of the old as well as present days of those wonderful memories.

Dear ssh123, Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to attend the farewell at the school/college because I was at that time in different city. Of course, I remember well the farewell offered to me in my workplace when I left for good prospective job. It is long time back. I do not have the same colleagues working there now except a few. Of course it is a wonderful memory of farewell to nurse.

It is really a touching moment when colleagues, junior classmates bade farewell to us. It is more sentimental and sometimes, one get the feeling of not leaving the place at all because of the love and affection people shower on them. Thanks for your response and it is quite interesting.
