Skype is killing my Internet Explorer connection!

Since downloading the free Skype software and Google toolbar yesterday, my Internet Explorer connection refuses to come up. I've heard that Internet Explorer is not the best browser system available anyway. Fortunately for me, I had already downloaded Mozilla Firefox awhile back. Today I'm using Mozilla exclusively. I am committed to keeping my Skype software and would hate to delete it. But, I'll do what I have to. I was wondering if anyone else has had this trouble with the Skype software/Google toolbar? Maybe Skype is not compatible with Internet Explorer? Let me know.

I agree! Why is Explorer the only browser that go DOWN in quality everytime they upgrade? The World may never know! :) LOL! I so tired of hunting down version 7.0 bugs and viruses that I'll probably give it up all together! Take a look at Maxthon: http://www.maxthon.com/download.htm

Well, it's official! I am the last person to know about crummy software as usual. Until three months ago, I had been using AOL exclusively and we all know how bad their stuff is. And, my upgrade (if you can call it that) was Internet Explorer, when I made the switch to broadband. Internet Explorer is so super slow. I can't believe it's been around all this time. Right now, I'm using Firefox exclusively. This morning the Internet Explorer refused to boot up at all. So, that will have to go in the trash. I'm glad they don't make us pay for that stuff. Hey wasn't there some kind of security breach problems with Internet Explorer. Some kind of back door that would let a hacker take control of a computer from a remote location if the person was using Internet Explorer? That's what I heard anyway. Well, looks like we both may end up on Bill Gate's hit list. He has the money to do that kind of thing! LOL! Just kidding! At least that's my offical story. Let's all get our stories straight before they question us.

I use mozilla firefox and I also have the same issues with regards to skype. I think skype uses way way more memory and bandwidth, that's why the computer and the connection slows down. I uninstalled my Skype and everything went to normal. I suggest you take it out too. There are other more-computer or system friends ways to talk to loved ones. Good luck!

Its not like that. I am using skype with latest internet explorer 7. Its running well. But while installation it was creating some problem during connection. I have reinstalled the set up file. now its running fine. just check if your firewall is not allowing skype. that might be also a reason. If any firewall is there, remove it and turn on eindows firewall. if its working fine, then the problem lies there. you can have a check.... let me know if it helps or not

I too have skype that only my dad uses and very rarely at that. it does seem to really slow down my computer and if i deleted my dad would be pretty mad because it is pretty much the only way he contacts his brother in paraguay.

I think that there are a good many programs that aren't compatible with Internet Explorer. Especially if you have the latest version of Internet Explorer (the one with tabs), it seems to have quite a few problems. My suspicion is that Microsoft has written things into the software that make it compatible with their "accepted" add ons, and non-accepted add ons give the software a lot of problems. Switching to Mozilla Firefox is definitely a wise move. I only use IE at work now, and that's mainly because I haven't downloaded Firefox yet!

It's not that Skype is not compatible with IE. It might have to do with the fact that Skype has a bad habit to turn the computer it's hosting into a supernode if it fulfils requirements. This means that Skype will hijack your connection and computer to host calls from other people. You'll never see the connections being made; this is a background process within Skype itself. I've had this problem before, though what happened was my computer slowed down tremendously along with my Internet connection. Firefox is more robust than IE, so it's not too susceptible to these kinds of connection problem, but I think the problem lies more with Skype than your browser. As far as I know, the only way for Skype to interfere with IE is to swallow up bandwidth.

I dont think so.. Because I am using Skype for long time with the internet explorer. May be you are not installed the latest version of internet explorer. That could be the problem. But IE should support with all types of software...
