I have a new Dell computer with Vista and then also a Dell Spherion Laptop. I am computing and daughter is computing at library with her laptop. We would like to use both at the same time withig the house. How do we go about setting it up so we can both compute with wireless capability. Thanks in advance.

Willow the others are right you need to get a wireless router. But they failed to mention you can only network your other computer's to the internet with a high speed connection. You can not share an internet connection if you are on dial up. I hope you are on broadband or cable before you go out and spend the money on a wireless router.

We are in the city now and on DSL since a housefire took everything we owned and we are selling the property. Renting a house and possibly buying it when the property sells. Thanks for responding and am glad that people are able to answer my question and be ever so helpful.

Not a problem. I just added it because I knew someone who had dial up that thought a wireless network would work in there house. They called me when they couldn't get more than the main computer online. I laughed and told them to call AT&T or Comcast and get a high speed connection, it is the only way.

Good luck doing this. My hubby set ours up. I don't think he had too much of a problem doing it though. I do know you need a wireless router. It depends on what kind of connection (I think) that you have as to what kind you need. I do hear though that the Linksys brand is the best (what we use too). I believe the router though comes with a disk with step by step instructions :)

As was already mentioned you need to have a wireless router and make sure each computer has a wireless card. The router will come with installation CD which will need to be run on both computers. It can be really a pain to set up the network because sometimes you have to fiddle a lot with the settings. Sometimes it is best if all the cards and the router are of the same brand. Also you need to be on a broadband connection. It will not work very well with dial up. If you do not have broad band look into getting Clearwire. I have heard some complaints about them but there are filters that will help solve some of the problems. Also the router need to be set up were there is no interference with the antenna.

Willow, You need to go and purchace a wireless router. Before you do that you need to check if your daughters laptop has a wireless card built in it or if you need to buy one. New Laptops have them built in. Once all figured out get the wireless router and hook it up to the mother desktop computer. It comes with a C.D and instructions to follow. Once you do that make sure that the little wireless network switch found on the side of your daughters laptop is on and there you have it. The wireless netwrok will feed on any detected networks near by and thus never ever use the laptop for banking ...etc as any one can feed into the netwrok which is not secure. There are ways to create your own secure network but that is another topic!

my husband and I have this set up at home. He has a wireless router hooked into the incoming connection. His computer is then hard wired through the router. The router has as small antenna on it, that my wireless adaptor in my laptop senses, and hooks into. You can set a password for wireless networks so others can't tap into it. depending on how close your neighbors are, they may be able to pull through your signal, so a password is best. You just need the wireless router, and you'll be good to go. I love it, I sit on the couch and use the computer, while my hubby is playing games in the next room.
