My husband is making pierogies and fried onions..It smells really good. How many of you like this combination, and if you do, what are your favorites and do you add anything else to them..We boil the pierogies first and then fry them with the onions...

Oh gosh just when I thought I could stand doing without my favorite foods you have to remind me that I can't eat Pierogies ever again. :(
I am diabetic so you can imagine what the pasta and potatoes would do to my blood sugar. Through the roof. But I'm happy to hear someone is enjoying them.

you poor thing! Maybe there is some sort of substitute you could come up with? Are their types of flour out there that you can use to make pasta? Like spelt, maybe? Or rice flour. You could find rice pasta squares in some supermarkets and then make your own diabetic fiendly version of perogies. Off the top of my head, I sometimes mash cauliflour as if it were potatoes. Then you could add cheese and seasonings and fill the rice flour squares with that?
I do not know a whole lot about diabetic friendly diets so I am sorry if I am not much help!

They are whipped potatos blended with onions, cheese, broccoli or whatever you like, and folded in stuffed pasta. You can boil, bake, fry, deep fry, saute, or grill them. I buy mine in the freezer section of the grocery store. They come in potato and cheddar, potato and onion, potato, broccoli and cheddar, potato, sour cream and chive, potato and american cheese, sauerkraut, and potato, cheddar and jalapeno..Thank you for asking!!

Pierogies are whipped potatoes blended with cheese, onions, broccoli, or something like this, folded in a pasta shell. They are like raviolis but have potatoes in them. There isn't any sauce..They can be boiled, baked, grilled, saute'd, fried, or deep fried. They are a German and Polish food.

i love almost everything with onions, just the smell of them when fried makes say hmmm.. :) though, while i believe that they are also good to prevent certain heart diseases, i have to control my intake with them because i learned it is also one of the things that can trigger hyper-acidity.

Wow, I can smell those pierogies now and my mouth is watering. Maybe I will get some later today. I buy mine at a Polish deli, frozen. Luckily there are only 12 in a package since I eat 6 of them immediately. My favourites are Sauerkraut and Mushroom stuffing. I eat them with fried onions and sour cream. I also like the cheddar and potatoe stuffing. Those I boil and add the fried onion to them and a big green salad at the side. Since they are not too healthy I indulge only a few times a year. Too bad.

I love these little devils. My kids often would request them in place of the boring mashed potatoes. I will have to try them with my husband. He loves potatoes and this will certainly liven up a meal.

I have not had them for quite a while and am not that fond of them===too white.and too much potatoes and white flour makes me gain weight. I like them boiled and then adding the fried onions. I do like the cottage cheese stuffed ones that best. My husband likes them fried with the onions, and we both love a little sour cream with them, not that much though. I tried them baked once but did not like them that much.
I am also lazy, and we get ours frozen from the grocers.

I am not fond of cottage cheese. I have never baked them and I don't know if I would like them that way..sometime I will bake them just to see what happens..We don't have them too often..thank you.

I LOVE PIEROGIES!! My dad and I always get pierogies at any kind of fair we go to. They are all buttery and they smell soooo good whenever we pass the booth. In fact tonight is actually pierogie fest in our home town. I know there are a bunch of different kinds of pierogies but I'm in favor of just the plane potatoe ones. Dipping those in some sour cream and I have a perfect snack!! YUMMY!! When I make them at home, I also boil them and then fry, but I've never fried them with onions. I'll have to try that. It sounds delicious!! Thanks for the tip!
Now you have me wanting pierogies and its only 8:50 in the morning! :)

Oh you have made me so hungry! I haven't had pierogies in such a long time...I love them fried with onions and sour cream on the side. When we have just plain potato and cheese I use some applesauce on the side...I love them right from the pan all steamy hot! I am so jealous lol!!!

wow thats sounds yummy,i havent had them in awhile, maybe i will make them this week,i like to make a casserole out of them.i use 1 package of egg noodles,1 large onion chopped,1 1/4 cups of melted butter, about 6 cups of mashed potatoes,1 cup of schredded cheese, salt, pepper, garlic salt to taste.make the noodles according to package then set them aside, saute chopped onions in butter, combined mash potatoes with the cheese.in a glass pan spread a portionof the onion/butter mixture over the bottom.spread half the noodles on top of the potatoes, pour about half a cup of butter/onions mixture over the noodles.sprinkle top with salt pepper, and garlic powder and bake for 50 minutes covered at 400.you can also add bacon the last 25 minutes.this is really good and tasty.i think i will make this soon.take care

Pierogies are little dough squares stuffed with different fillings. Potatoes and cheese, cottage cheese, sauerkraut and mushrooms, ground meat, or blueberries. The little packages are then boiled in salted water and then some people fry them with onions and eat them with sour cream and or crumbled bacon. Or the onions are fried separately and poured over the boiled pierogies.

Hi Lakota,
I am so sorry I don't have a recipe. My mother-inlaw used to make them from scratch. I always buy them frozen in the Polish deli or in the frozen section of the supermarket and then just boil them and proceed from there with the onions, sour cream or crumbled bacon. Maybe someone else has a recipe.

MMMMMMMMM, pierogies and onions, with butter and garlic, that's how I like mine. I boil my pierogies, and saute onions and garlic in lots of butter. Once the pierogies and the oin, garlic and butter sauce is done, I just pour the sauce over the boiled pierogies and viola' a yummy, scrumptious meal! Now I want some, LOL

perogies are yummy for the tummy, but terrible for your waistline! lol. 4 perogies is over 200 calories. Even worse if you add butter or sour cream to them. And I don't know many people who only eat 4 perogies. They're good, but I try to stay away from them.
