What do you consider true beauty?

There is beauty in nature. - Can we see the beauty of nature?

It's said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think men prove that to be true when they think a car is beautiful. Of course there are cars that are great looking but beautiful? hmmmmmm......I think a new born infant is beautiful even when they are just born and wrinkled and funny looking...they are still beautiful to me. I guess that also proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder doesn't it? Beauty can be found in every day objects like flowers, grass, trees and just about anything in nature but there are people who don't appreciate it and don't see the beauty in it. If a woman feels that she is beautiful I think she radiates that to everyone who sees her and they actually think she is even when she isn't. I've seen women with beautiful long hair yet their face looks like they've been hit by a mack truck. I wouldn't say she was beautiful but that she has beautiful hair. I found this quote on a Christian site and it's what gave me the idea for this discussion: "But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'" (1 Samuel 16:7, NIV). http://www.actsweb.org/articles/article.php?i=968&d=2&c=3 How do you define true beauty? Is it only in the eye of the beholder? Can some people see beauty where there is none?

You are right in there, beauty is never (and should not) be limited to what we see outside or the external manifestations. Although external beauty certainly is part of the package, as they say, what is the most important and the thing that remains for the lifetime is the internal beauty or the true and shining qualities of the person. Life is indeed never limited to what we see just on the inside. Maybe it's about time that the world should recognized this fact. Only internal beauty remains for the lifetime. We will eventually get old. Our face will get wrinkled. Our energy will eventually dipped. Our youth power will eventually be gone. What will remains is the character that we have formed throught the years. The good character that will always shine whenever and wherever. I hope that the whole will wake up to this fact. it is about time to recognized these factors rather than just concentrate what we could easily see inside.

Both of you are so right! I am NOT a beautiful woman on the outside and I know that yet people have told me that I am beautiful. I think that is because of the person I am and it reflects in everything I do and say. I'm a good person and that is what makes me feel beautiful.

I consider true beauty pretty much anything that is considered to be in true perfection of it's form. Like the male and female bodies, the human form is beautiful. Yet, I also find waking up and watching the mist above the lake around the dock also beautiful. The butterflies around the wildflowers are beautiful as well. Basically, untouched and purely natural things are what I find beautiful, if that makes any since at all.

Yes, what you say makes a lot of sense...to me anyway. I could see everything you described and it's true beauty to me!

To most people beauty is in the eye of the beholder, ctry, but I think you have to have an affinity for art to truly appreciate real beauty. The artist looks at everything in a different way than the average person. True beauty does shine from the inside out. I think that if a person has a beautiful soul, then it does not matter what the outward appearance is. I always think of that scene from the old "Frankenstein" movie where the little girl is interacting with the monster in the field. She does not notice his outward appearance, but his attitude towards her is loving and kind.

I feel the same as you. Beauty isnt just about the look. It is whats inside, what is radiated. It comes from deep within. Like nature, it is beautiful. Trees, which really only have leaves and branches, are beautiful. And yes, i think you can see beaty where there is none, because you dont actually have to see it. Not sure if this really makes sense, but i understand it. Best wishes to you,

It is very hard to make sense of it but a tree is a great example. Since they do a lot for pollution and other environmental aspects that would make them beautiful to me yet their really not the most beautiful things that nature has made. Flowers are much more pleasing to the eye...most of the time.

If you can find beauty in a flower, why can't you find beauty in a car? I don't think there is a definition of beautiful. No one can agree that one particular quality or color or this or that or any other thing is what makes something or someone beautiful therefor, I feel it has no true definition other than what it is inside of you that makes you think it is beautiful. I also don't think beauty is just about looks. I think beauty has more of a deeper meaning to it. You can see someone who you think is a beautiful person, on the outside, but get to know them on the inside and see they are ugly...and that ugly shows through to the outside. or vice versa. That's how men can find beauty in a car. That's how people can find beauty in nature. It's more than just an appearence. I guess... like that religious quote you quoted.

lol...the car! That seems to be the first thing I think of when I think of what men think are beautiful! My brother is a car nut and he's always saying how beautiful a certain car is. He talks about it as if it were a woman!

True beauty is when the soul is pure. I have seen very beautiful people to be arrogant and think no end of themselves. To them, they are supreme. Believe me, when I see a beautiful lady, I admire her and wonder at Gods craft. It is only when I get it touch with them and endure their nature that I feel that what we are is basically the soul. We need to radiate peace and love and believe me, that is the most beautiful person in the world.

I wonder why it is that the so called "beautiful people" are so full of themselves. With all of the make up and things they can do to enhance themselves almost anyone can LOOK beautiful but they usually can't BE beautiful. Most people don't even know the difference.

To me true beauty is a person with a beautiful heart and a beautiful soul, not necessarily beauty on the outside. As for outter beuty, a person is beautiful on the outside when they feel comfortable and confident about how they look.

In today's technological age I think anyone can LOOK beautiful but nothing can be done to make them that way on the inside. So many times we can tell by looking at a person that they took hours to look the way I do but I can go outside after just waking up and feel beautiful because of how I feel inside.

I think beauty is everywhere, but that there are many different types of it--sometimes it seems we can evaluate something and say "okay, that's beautiful", but sometimes it's just completely overwhelming. The right lighting, stars, the right smile, the glow of a happy person in Love, natural physical beauty, grace, kinds of strength and determination--orderly patterns determined by nature--there are so many kinds of beauty...

i think true beauty is on the inside. someone who is a great friend, would help you out in any situation, is a free spirit, and lives for themselves. i have a friend that is all of those. physically she dont have a good looking, but she is a wonderful person and i strive to be more like her every day. she doesn't take anyones crap and she stands up for what she believes in no matter what. she is my best friend!

Beauty is INDEED depending on the person seeing or observing it. For sure, there are a lot of things we considered as beautiful while other group of people may not see as it is. Therefore, beauty is subjective, a very subjective thing to behold. This is also subject to our own cultural understanding and our own personal experiences. Some people have this what they call as X FACTOR which is something unseen but could be felt. There are some things that are hard to understand yet we know they all exist. Beauty is a subject which has no universally understood definition. And this is good actually, because we could use our own creativity on this aspect and there is no stereotypes to be followed. As for me, true beauty is what is really the internal forces working for the betterment of the society and making humanity even one step ahead of our true human potential. The true human potential is never limited into the forces that are currently working here in this world. This is certainly beyond that. Beauty is what you see as beautiful.

I must be a very "simple" person then, as I often find so much beauty in nature, but then that might be my "artistic" eye at work...I can find beauty in flowers, trees, seeing butterflies flitting by..etc etc....And often a person might not be a radiate, raving beauty, but they ARE beautiful since their beauty comes from deep within and just shines out--you can't help liking people like that--they have an "aura" about them Besides as far as "beauty" is concerned....sometimes the most beautiful ones are really the ones whose inner beauty shines, while those who really ARE beautiful are shallow people...like the saying goes, don't judge a book by it's cover...and how true that can be at times.

I believe that inner beauty does shine through. A person who is kind and easy going shows it without even knowing it and that's what makes them beautiful to others.

i believe that to be true..beauty is in the eyes of the beholder..very true..you know i have a friend who is not beautiful at all when you first glance at her..they always make fun of her appearnace and she takes it as a joke most of the time..she never showed any offense on it but i know that somehow she must be hurt..i say its not the appearance that makes a person beautiful, its that something within her and that she is really amazingly beautiful to my eyes because of her good deeds that people dont see on her..she is a loveable person, she helps on her family, she worked hard to give support to her friends..she was never seen to be rude to people..she is what she is..and she is just the most beautiful person ive ever met..i had told her this many times..and that i appreciate her the way she is and she need not to change anything at all..for me that is the true beaty, it doesnt matter who and what she is..regardless of appearance..whats within is whats important to make yourself beautiful.

I think it's sad when people don't appreciate each other for who they are and only for how they look. I feel bad for your friend because she does sound like a beautiful person to me.
