im currently writing an article right now, 2 news article and one feature article. there are moments that i cant think of the right word or a particular word, like i knew the word but i just cant remember what is it. and then i think hard and i really cant remember it! like a mental block. and the the word will just pop inside my head in a very inappropriate time! like when im washing the dishes or doing the laundry, when i dont have a pen in my hand to write it!^__^;; and then i finish what im doing and forget again the word. LOL
so what do you do in times like this?

This can happen to the best writer in the world.I
suggest that you are never without your notebook,
jotting down as many words and meanings as you can
just as an artist who is proficient in drawing will
always have a sketch book at hand, constantly making
sketches and taking notes no matter how rough or
simple they might be.!!!!!lol

hi jungle! ^__^ I'm not exactly a writer y'know. I mean, my job is not writing. although in the past, and until now, i've been involved with the craft and I think i've acquired a little skill on it. ^__^ but it never became my habit to keep a notebook even just a piece of paper with me. LOL

i always forget words. the funny thing is that i can tell you the word in a different language without a problem but just can not remember it in my own language. i can also tell a 1000 words that are connected to it but can not remember the exact word that i want to use.

LOL wow. you know a lot of other languages? cool. that would really be amazing if I can say the word in a different language but not able to remember it in my own native language. LOL
just this morning I forgot the name of a certain vegetable and I couldn't even describe it even if I can see its picture on my mind. LOL the nice thing is, my officemate guessed correctly what that vegetable is. ^__^

I get writer's block all the time. Try free writing (that means writing whatever comes to mind for 15 minutes without stopping).

writing whatever comes to my mind?? that's interesting! but if im experiencing writer's block then i wouldnt be able to write anything since my mind is blank and i cant think of anything about the topic and instead i think of other things. LOL

Hello secretbear,
It always happen to me. I don't write articles but whenever I want to write something, out of sudden the word just flip through my mind and it is really hard to remember what it is. I find it funny too, like you said; that particular word will just pop up from nowhere in an inappropriate time. Sometimes, while taking my shower, or washing the clothes or cooking and most of the time it comes when I want to close my eyes and sleep! Then, I need to jump out of the bed and get a paper to jot it down.
I just let it be and never try to remember the word. It will come back later after I don't think of it anymore *smile*

if I remember the word just in time that I'm going to sleep, I won't bother to get out of the bed and look for a pen to write it. because i'd get my cellphone (which is always beside me when I sleep) and type the word there and save it. ^__^ it would really be convenient if this is how I remember the words I forget. I wouldn't have to worry on forgetting it again coz I'm so lazy to get up, and I would just rely on my cellphone. LOL

It is quite true that I would forget certain words in time when they are badly needed. The more I try to search in my memory the worst it becomes. Very often the lost word will reappear in my mind after some other moment when I am involved some other activities. Normally I will note it down instantly. In case I couldn’t have pen and paper with me I would try to relate it with some other actual situation which could remind me of the word later on.

relate it to some other actual situation? hmm.. well, i think that could work. or maybe use it again and again in a sentence so that the moment that the word is really needed, it will easily pop into the minds. ^__^ thanks for that advice.

There are times that I also get lost for words, ideas that I want to write. Just like here in mylot, I seldom think of words that are more approriate to use on my posts.
All I do is pause for a while, maybe keave the PC on for a moment. I will go search for things that might help me, like books or ideas on the net to help me provide more ideas. I always think of it like, looking to a bigger picture to help my mind concentrate more for that matter..

when i forget, it really means forget and i wont easily remember it just by looking into stuffs like books, mags or anything. ^__^;; i really would have to wait until the word pops into my minds by its own bidding. LOL thats if im alone. when im with someone i force them to helme and think too. LOL

actually, I do that too. ^__^ but only when there's nothing good that I can think of and there's no creative juice flowing in my head. LOL like, if I drained my brain too much and I can't think of any good way to write on a topic. I refresh myself. ^__^ thanks for the advice healer. ^__^

Oh yes. I experience that all the time! When I am writing my beauty articles, since English is not my first language, I really need to translate everything in my brain before I could put it down. And sometimes, the words come so close to my brain but they just won't appear! I usually sit there and flipping the dictionary hoping that the words would come in but no! It's like they are playing some jokes with me or something *laughs*. Anyway, they usually come back and I have to rush to take a pen and paper to write down before they vanish in my head again. Wish you good luck with the writing!

youre a writer of beauty articles??? wow. nice. ^__^ it really surprises me everytime i learn of something new aboyt my myLot friends. ^__^
so what is your native language? english is not my native language too so it takes me a lot longer than how long it takes me writing in my native tongue. plus its more comfortable to write in my own language than in some other foreign language. sometimes what i do is work on the article on my native tongue and then translate it to english later on. ^__^

Yep, always too. Its not that I run out of ideas or anything. It's just that whatever I am writing doesn't turn out how I would like it to be. As in the argument isn't strong or the structure doesn't turn out really good, or the focus and plot just disappears halfway through. But then again, I was never really into writing as evident during my school years, I was more of a maths person!

wow. a math genius. ^__^ when i was in high school i thought i loved math. but when i came to college??? i broke up with it. LOL i didnt love math anymore, in fact, i sort of hated it! it was tooooo difficult and our professor made it more difficult. it became a pain in the azz! LOL i became more interested in history and in the sciences. ^__^
i know what you mean about writing something but its not what you wanted it to be. im experiencing it right now. so im taking a break. if im like this it means im forcing myself and i dont like what it comes out of it. so, im myLotting first. LOL

Half the time I'm at a loss for words when I'm just trying to talk. I very much like to use the Merriam Webster dictionary (www.m-w.com) which also has an online thesaurus to help me find words.
I also usually look it up on the internet and usually by typing similar things or descriptions of what you're looking for it will mysteriously materialize in your head again!

sometimes i use encarta to look for the meaning of a word or sometimes to see if im using it correctly. but what's odd is sometimes they dont have the word im looking for, like the word "despite". i wanted to see the difference between "despite" and "inspite". so i resorted to a handy dictionary. ^__^

Oh gosh i know exactly what you mean. This happens to me all the time. I'm like trying to write a story and then I just get writer's block all of a sudden, so I just do what someone mentioned in the post earlier. I freewrite for at least half an hour. I had to write an article on wednesday and i wrote it in less than an hour. I checked it over to make sure it was good enough and i was proud of what I had done. Free writting really does help.

oh I guess its a writer's block even though I'm not really a writer. ^__^ I guess i'll try that, freewriting stuff, whenever I can't think of anything to write or how to start an article. but y'know, from now on, if I get a writer's block and do freewriting, i'd probably be writing how I posted this discussion and what people here advised me to do. LOL
