I was told not to get vista as well but my husband bought me a laptop at christmas and it is vista and i have no problem with it. My other computer is xp and its fine too.I think there ar new windows coming out soon so ask at the shop.It is very confusing to try to keep up with all the changes and annoying when you buy something and the following week it is out of date.

true, i was also advised not to get the vista but i talked to a lot of people who used it in their work and at home. the whole family liked vista and had no problesm with this new system..change is not easy..you move out of your comfort zone but this change is for the good and you will be up to speed it no time..very user friendly...the prblem i had was my blue tooth was defective device was defective so dell quickly sent me a new mouse and keyboard and the plug in blue toot..but they also sent me another keyboard and mouse that you can plug in via cable so it was very nice of them and i sent the old defective parts pack ina pre paid shipper provided by dell..it was annoying talking to the tech support..and yes i had to spend a few hours going over and over like a broken record..but finally I said in a gruff manner (which i appoligized later) that this was not my respoonsiblity to take the computer apart and look in the CPU for I have assembled computer but I told them that just by looking at a moterboard or a few wires and componets i could not and would not take apart something that is under the dell warranty..in the US we just take back a defective item..and i am sorry that Dell does not honor their warranty..soon the line was very quiet...
"Sir..send back the parts for a replacemetn...and the rest is history but I did have to wait ten days...but after that it was ok..software is good too...just different..

i have both systems in two computer at home but I prefer the Vista as you more RAM and ROM to run the programs I run. The only problem was the wireless keyboard had a defective bluce tooth and Dell replaceed everything..it was not in the software as my wife prefers the Vista for her various projects.
The system that I got was updated so this is maybe its different from your version. This was bought through a Ford Corporate Aaccouont set up before I retire in May 2008. So that is why i have my old HP with xp and a new Dell with windows
with a lot of software (word) and video professor, lotus, and so many firewalls..thanks for posting if it does what it claim then that is worth the risk..so far since last year it been ok..
