Right now at my this home, I have one desktop and two laptops. So everybody has a computer to use, including my three year old son:) Sometimes I use laptop or desktop. My husband uses his laptop. My dad always said I should buy a new computer because my desktop is old and slow. I don't think so. I think it works fine and I am not going to waste money to buy a new one. I don't know how to deal with the old desktop. And I think it will be too many if we have four computers at home, it's not necessary at all.

You could do what we do and that is to just update the things that need to be. Like buying a new video card or sound card. It's still cheaper than buying a new computer all the way around. We do it in stages so we don't break ours selves with the wallet. www.tigerdirect.com is where we go and find the best deals so far, at least for the things we need.

You are right. Maybe all I need is to buy a 512MB or 1GB ROM. My hard disk is quite large, it's 200GB already.

I would only upgrade it if it's being used still. But for the sake of upgrading it without really use, then it's such a waste of money. If you want, you can donate it to me. *LOL* Yeah, I agree, I'd rather upgrade the newer one than the old, unless someone really uses it. But as you said, you have way more computers already even your young son has one. *LOL*

Hello youless! When I lived in my country of origin, I had a desktop. We bought it in 1997 and it was the first proper computer we bought. Earlier ones were just for gaming etc. whenever there was a problem, I either personally repaired it or got it repaired but never changed. When I got married, I bought a laptop for my partner when we hadn't yet started living together. It was the latest model back then, Pentium 4. When we moved to France, for my studies, we brought it here. I am using the same one, since then. Even if I buy, it will do no better thing for me as my research work can't be done on laptop. It requires more than 20 parallel processing high profile computers to execute one single run of analysis. There is no desktop or laptop which can do this job. And then, my laptop works very fine and I have no problem with it. I have no intention to change it or buy a new one either. More over, I have some emotional attachment with this laptop. Since I bought it for my partner, so even if it is damaged or no more useable, I'll still keep it for the rest of my life:-)

You are a very considerate spouse. I like your way that you use something for a long time. It's a good habit that you don't tend to waste things:)

There are always better methods and uses for money other than to waste it just for pleasure and seeking newer and newer things, youless! And then we all have responsibility to use the world's resources at their fullest, so that we can save these resources for others and for our next generations. Same goes for the natural resources that we tend to use carelessly. With more sensible use of these resources our comings generations will have better chance to enjoy them.

well i will not be buying a new computer but def. i have to upgrade my computer very soon because now my computer mother borad has few problems and i have a preety uncommon model of AMD CPU and a ASUS motherboard. but now i have decided that next change for me would be a intel pentium cause although AMD has better performance but the fact is that intel has more spare parts available for the mother board when they have any problem. i have AMD for more than 7 years now and the only problem i faced with it is that when you have any problem with your motherboard, you dont have many option except for replace that with a new one. and now after being 4 year old mother board i have decided that i would go for a new intel set.

If you use your old desktop for internet and word processor only it is not advisable to buy a new unless you are into gaming and graphics savvy. ^^ If something happen to your old desktop I can say itis the right time to buy a new one.

i think i will buy a laptop someday, after i work. now i have two desktops, one is from my teacher, another is i bought four years ago,you see it is very old-fashioned,i even consider to get rid of it.because when a computer is too old,it will give out my rays,i've heard.so i am considering to buy a more green one, next year.

I am surprised that you are using Windows Vista:) Do you think it's better than Windows XP? I still prefer to use Widows XP. But I think you will have less possibilities to get the computer virus:)

You have so many computers.I admire you very much.I have only one. It's a desktop. There are four people in my family. My parents,my little brother and I.We use this computer in different times. My parents use the computer to watch the stock market,my little brother and I mainly use it to study, play computer games, enjoy music online and so on.I don't think that only one computer is enough,I hope my parents will buy another one for us someday. By the way,how many discussions do you usually respond each day?

Hi youless! Wow! You got lots of computers at home. Nope, I am not going to buy a new computer (for now). But I have plans to get a laptop because I can carry it wherever I go and make business presentation using the technology. :) Though it is expensive, it is worthy of the cost. (",) Plus, it is more convenient. Enjoy your weekend, youless! :)

I think it's better to buy a new computer than upgrade the old one. As it may not support for the new hardware since it is 8 years old computer.

Computers are just tools to accomplish our daily tasks. As long as you can use your computer to do your tasks and cope with the current technology, you're right you don't need a new computer.
