i have this female jack russel terrier named zoe. She is about 8 years old which i think is 56 years in dog years... i would like to know if it is too late to train her or teach her tricks? She is famous in my neighborhood for chasing cars, she barks at people at the front door, even if it is someone she is familiar with... maybe she is trying to be a doorbell? anyway i would like to know if it would be worth the time trying to train her?

Animals are trainable no matter how old they may be. Though with older pets, there are certain bad behaviors you have to break them of, while training them in a new and different way. A lot of patience and time go into training older pets, but it can be done if you stick with it.

thanks for the encouragement! My dog is pretty old... is it true that for every year a dog is alive that is equal to about 7 dog years? I will try to be patient with her...

You're welcome! And yes it is true that for every year a dog is alive , it would be 7 years in a dog's world. They age much quicker than humans do.

Yes I think it would be. Older dogs are set in their ways just like people are.

thats what i was thinking at first but i agree with the first responder that they can be trained at all ages, but it might take longer because they are older. even if they are set in there ways i believe it can be done.

No, of course not...Shes a Jack Russell so she is full of beans anyway, she love the new stimulation for her brain..Just make it exciting for her and she'll learn anything that you want to teach her.
