It's probably not such a great idea to put sugar in your child's water, due to the new teeth. And he might become so used to the sweetened water, he won't drink regular water. Once he can sit up, you can feed him anything you eat, just a little blander and softer. My son was eating burgers when he was 9 months, I'd just chew it a little first. He loved tomatoes, boiled carrots, tiny pieces of hotdog, dry toast, peas, grean beans, fruits (especially pineapple and orange), puddings, moist cakes, etc. It's such a great time now, he's learning what he likes and doesn't like and how to feed himself. Oatmeal and rice are always good options, just cook the rice a little more than usual to make it smushy.
Blessed Be

Oh, and kids love huge carboard boxes to play in. Just watch him b/c eventually he'll try to eat it, lol. My son and nephew (1 year and 7 mos, respectively) adore huge cardboard boxes I bring home from work. Shoeboxes, pots and pans, overturned chairs, blankets, you name it.

This is a great time to start introducing foods with new flavors and textures to your son. Strained foods can gradually be replaced by mashed and finger foods. Take this opportunity to serve as many healthy food choices as possible before your child develops strong food preferences.
Your baby is probably beginning to feed himself. You can cut up tiny pieces of food and place them on the feeding tray. Cereals, breads, cheese, and other soft foods are good choices. Try to avoid hard, smooth food, such as hot dogs, apples, grapes, peanuts, carrots or popcorn for the time being.

when my children are still bottle fed they also drink milk more than the doze they need.... but i give them milk when they want... plus juices and cookies, bisquits, fruits and cakes too. i dont think it is bad as long as you wont over feed your child. make sure you give him only when he wants too. but make sure you give him a lot of water to drink to help his bowel movement.

Congratulations! I think the milk from mother is always the best food for the baby. In this age you can also try to add more extra food for your baby. Such as the mashed vegetable or the yolk of egg. Juice or some fruits are also good for him.
