Does anyone here know this song? It is an amazingly beautiful and heartbreaking song with a dark history. It was written in 1933 by two Hungarian men. It is said that the English translation does not do it justice, but even so, the lyrics are heart-wrenching. It is known as the "Hungarian Suicide Song" because many people committed suicide to this song. Either they would use the lyrics in their suicide notes, have the sheet music in their hands when they died, or would have the song playing while they died. The song was banned in Hungary in 1933. Americans jumped on this song. It was recorded by many artists in America. Perhapse the most popular recording in America is by Billie Holiday, though i am partial to Sarah McLachlan's version. People in the United States began committing suicide to the song as well, so it was banned in 1937. The ban was liften in America in 1963, though never in Hungary. i turn to this song often times when i am in a really dark place. i sing it, usually in my head... Here are the lyrics: Sunday is gloomy My hours are slumberless Dearest the shadows i live with are numberless Little white flowers will never awaken you Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you The angels have no thougts of ever returning you Would they be angry if i thought of joining you? Gloomy Sunday Gloomy Sunday With shadows i spend it all My heart and i have decided to end it all Soon there'll be candles And prayers that are sad, i know But let them not weap Let them know that i'm glad to go And death is no dream And in death i'm caressing you With the last breath of my soul i'll be blessing you Gloomy Sunday Dreaming I was only dreaming I wake and i find you asleep in the deep of my heart Dear Darling i hope that my dream never haunted you My heart is telling you How much i wanted you Gloomy Sunday Gloomy Sunday Gloomy Sunday
