We just adopted 2 Great Pyrenees pups to be working dogs on our farm. My husband used names on them he was hoping one day to use on a pair of Great Danes. He asked me if I was OK with the names (Goliath and Atlas) and I said it was fine - because it would take me a MONTH to name them. (I still want a bernese Mountain Dog named Maya!) but I had a husky mix - I went through 7 names for that poor dog before I finally settled on her permanent name. And my Akita went 2 weeks being called "dog" until I settled on a name for him! I'm horrible at naming pets!

i'm horrible at it! My great Pyr was baby for about a month until we settled on Maggie Mae... more commonly known as the beast to those who know and love her :) My lab came with his name when we adopted him, and my Rott was named by my ex when he gave him to me as an anniversary present.

I'm always told I name my pets weird names. I had a cat ages ago that was all black with a little patch of white on her head and her name was Spooky. I've had dogs named Scooby Doo, Booger, Brownie, and my Petey. Our cat's name now is Morgana and our cat before her was Twoey (named after the man eating plant in the Little Shop of Horrors movie). !!HAPPY EASTER!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

usually yes. I think that every pet comes with his/her name and if you are in harmony with it- you can intuitively feel the right name for him/her.

Im not really good at naming pets. I usually go with human names like Chelsea or common pet names like Bubbles, Duke, Rocky.

I have everyone in the house pick a name and we write it down and then call the puppy the name and if it responeds that is the dogs name. As for cats I like cats but I am alargice to them so it is dogs for me. But I have heard that you don't own a cat the cat own's you. Is this true?

I'm terrible, Both my dogs went for almost a week without names bless them. The problem is that I need to know i'm not going to off the name coz they will be stuck with it for life and it's not like you can change it. My first puppy was a staff girl who i eventually called mia, the problem was i liked pretty girly names but my dad and bro also had to take her for walks and didn't want to be down the field shouting princess or tinkerbell etc. lol. My second was a little chihuahua, i was intending to get a little girl so had a list of girly names, much like those mentioned above, but i ended up with a little boy so it was back to the drawing bored, and we just called him little man for the first week. He's now chicko. I think naming pets is mo much harder than naming babies especially because all babies look basically the same compared to dogs, where the name has to suit the breed.

I have SO much fun naming pets! My mom never picks the names I come up with but I still have a lot lol. I really love the names that you have for your new great pyrenees! Goliath and Atlas! Cute! :) And I love Maya, what a pretty name! Me and my mom call my cat different names right now...my mom calls her Sweet Pea I call her Adiana. When I move out I will change it permantly to Adiana :) But man, give me time to make up names I will come up with a big list! lol. One of people's favorites I;ve come up with is for a large breed dog. It's Bix. I haven't had the chance to use it, but maybe someday :)
