Can you rely upon your My Lot friends for relationship advice?

When I'm feeling bad about something my spouse has done or some problem we are facing, most times I post it on My Lot. When it comes to my personal life, I'm an open book. Since I don't have many close family members offline in whom I can confide, I try to blog my feelings online. Before My Lot, I just entered this stuff into my own personal diary online where no one saw it. But, since joining My Lot, I've found that others really do like hearing about everyday problems and offering advice. Mostly, I'm just looking for some place to express frustrations and often post before thinking things through. Often times the personal or marital issues clear themselves up within hours. However, since I post them so quickly on My Lot, I still get answers and suggestions for months afterwards! I guess that's what happens when you use My Lot as your extended family. When your marriage or relationship is in trouble, do you ask for advice on My Lot? Do you share your troubles and trials and heartaches? And, if so, do you receive any relevant advice from others or mostly criticism?

Nope I think some things that are personal should stay personal. I will say that there is probably someone here who has been thru the same experience and could tell you how they solved the differences but you may not be able to do what they advise. I was taught not to speak of some things because I might regret it later So most of the time I would try to discuss things with my husband or the person I was having a problem with. We always seemed to resolve the matter without any outside help.

Hopefully when someone posts a discussion about a problem they are facing in life, there is someone who has been through that and is willing to share good advice. My life is not an open book like yours. (I'm a guy, Who would have guessed I don't share everything. lol) But I would hope if I did ask for advice, people would share helpful things and not criticism. Seeking advice is one of the good possibilities with a community such as this.

I have shared a few things but not a lot. I do talk alot about my son though and ask for parenting advice mostly. I usually talk to my sister or best friend and if they are not available then I might consult my friends on here. It all depends on what the issue is though as even though my book is open, it is only slightly ajar LOL I have received great advice and have taken a few and put into practice. Sometimes the advice are comments to reaffirm what I was already going to do. I just needed to know if that was the way to go.

i feel like i'm reading myself in your post. :) when i joined mylot, i was having a difficult time in my relationship. this has been like a good theraphy for me. sometimes i post some personal issues here, sometimes it's too painful to even write about it... so i keep it to myself until i can bear to open up. a lot of mylot users have provided me excellent advice. they have been quite helpful... maybe not always in directly solving the issue but helping me make myself feel better. :)

Yeah I think Mylot is a good place to get advice, personal or not, because there are people from around the world, who won't be bias, and who probably have a lot of experience with the thing you are asking about. Chances are someone has been through what you are going through, and they can give you advice to help you along the way.

i think you might get a better answer than you would sometimes from friends and family as they are privy to past and may have tainted opinions about the subject. its nice to get feedback from all scources in helping yourself come to a decision or insight to what may be going on in your life. if it works for you do it. and yes it can be venting which is cheaper than a shrink any day (he,he)
