Do You Live In A Controlled Access Building?

I live in a controlled access building, but it does me no good. Santa Monica recently passed a law that you can not smoke within 20 feet of any business and business is done in my place in the daytime. So, the people in my building who smoke have to go out through the back or side doors to smoke at all hours of the day and night. Because the tenants are to lazy to keep unlocking the door, they use things to prop the door open all the time. People are free to walk in or out at any time. The manager has addressed this issue several times, but no one listens to him. It is frustrating for me, because I never know who I may run into when I leave my apartment. I mean, I am very happy that they are not allowed to smoke inside the building any longer, but now, it is hard to feel safe. Before, I could not go out and sit down to read, without someone blowing smoke at me. When I was in my room, if my windows were open, I would get all kinds of smoke blown in on me. Do you have controlled access to your building and what would you do in my situation?

It seems to me that you are in a very scarey sisuation. I do not not know what I would do. I have never lived in a secured building, infact I have never lived in an appartment. I guess I have been lucky in that way. If it was me I would shut the doors when I was going in and out of the building, but that does not keep you safe in the hallway between your door and the street where you should be safe. I have not idea what to do except to shut the doors everytime you see it opened.

See that is the weird part about it. There are no hall ways. When I walk out my front door, I am out side. This apartment use to be a hotel many, many years ago. You see this style in a lot of movies. It is in a circle and surrounds a pool. I like living in an apartment because there are always friends and neighbors to talk to, but sometime they can get on your nerves. Especially when they play loud music,LOL. I just wish they had enough sense to lot the door when they go in and out.
