Do you think current unemployment statistics are correct?

Our state has eliminated "unemployment agencies" they have a website which allows the application for unemployment insurance claims, but nothing further is done. How can they get accurate employment statistics, if there is no one for the unemployed to go to? I was unemployed a while back and unemployment insurance is insignificant, but does help, for the little time is it able to be drawn upon. That would have put me in the unemployed statistics while I was receiving it. But after it ran out, I probably would have left those statistics, since there was no need for me to continue communicating with the state employment website, since all they did was tell me to go on Monster.com and look for openings in my area.

I don't know enough about how employment statistics are gathered, but I've wondered how they could get numbers for those who are still unemployed after UI also. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Budget cuts have definitely eliminated unemployment services here too.
