last month I got a parking ticket, except I never got the actual ticket on my car, just the overdue violation and the information on what to do to contest the ticket.
Since I felt this ticket was undeserved, I decided to contest it. Today I went to the city parking office for my appointment.
It was actually so quick, I barely knew what happened. The lady said,
"You had a valid visitors parking pass?"....I said "Yes, here it is."
Then showed her said pass. She said, "Huh." and tore up the violation
paper. "You're all set." And I was on my way. It probably took all
of one minute.
Have you ever contested a ticket? Parking or speeding? What was it like for you? Were you successful?

this did not happen to me but to a friend. basically we had torn off the right dates and times in the relevant coupon for use, but somehow we did not place it on the dashboard but kept it with the rest of the unused coupons!
so we wrote in an appeal and it was accepted. for your case you had a parking pass but did not display it? or you hadn't bought the parking pass yet when you got the ticket? seems strange how it could have happened.

I had the parking pass in my car...and it should have been good until 6am. My ticket was written at 3am. I think maybe they were hoping I wouldn't move my car before 6.
I have a friend who has seen the parking police writting tickets like this before.

Congrats! I have never contested any of the tickets I got, because they were actually pretty legitimate. One was a speeding ticket, and I was going way faster than I should have been. The other was a parking ticket, and though the parking lot was somewhat confusing about how to pay, where to pay, etc., I could have figured it out. I was in a hurry that day, and figured I wouldn't be away from the car for long enough for anyone to notice. Apparently they have eagle eyes on that lot. :)

I agree. I have paid tickets before when I feel I deserved them. ut this one was unfair. It was nice to have "the system" work in my favor.

This happened to me once when I was rear-ended in my car. The police officer gave me a ticket for an unsafe lane change, but he told me to contest the ticket because I was hit from behind. When I went to my hearing, the judge saw that no damage was done to either car so she just told me to forget about the whole thing. I was so relieved not to have lost that $100!
Congrats on your goodluck, but what a shame that you had to go to the hearing for a ticket you never should have gotten in the first place!
