What is truly disturbing about J.K ROWling's Harry Potter series is not that it happens to appeal so much to children but to children but that it happens to appeal so much to adults...

Could you explain why you find that disturbing? I think it's wonderful that so many people are rediscovering reading. If it convinces people to read more then I'm all for it! Plus, it's a good story. Obviously, it's complete fiction and the events are impossible. What's wrong with escaping your day-to-day life with an exciting story? I prefer it to watching gory movies or smarmy television shows. At least I can take my books with me out into the world.

How is it disturbing that adults enjoy Harry Potter? I don't understand. Should adults not enjoy reading?

I think that speaks to JK Rowling as an author, that she can appeal to any age group. The Harry Potter series is a work of fiction and fantasy at that. There are alot of other series out there that fit in the same category, most notably C.S. Lewis' the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe series.

if you love fiction and reading books.. its hard not to enjoy the series.. its a good read about a totally different world but still the set-up is in London.. magic, wizards and witches have always been fascinating.. but question... the book being appealing to adults and children.. what is "disturbing" about that? :)
