sampras' overhead smash

i saw a lot of overhead smash from sampras' game: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uw8IV4jqjUI but don't see a lot from roder federer's. feel like it seems sampras is a better player. am i right?

They play a different style of game. Federer doesn't come to the net any where near as much and, thus, doesn't have to hit smashes. He was trying at least to come in more at this last Wimbledon. Sampras had a better serve and definitely a better volly. If Federer does start coming in more his volly may improve.

right. am i right if i say that playing volly requires more control of game than playing baseline so sampras seems better by this understanding?

Hard to say who the better player is because they never played head to head but the overall record will show Federer on top because of the number of Majors he will have under his belt by the time he retires.

they did play against each other in wimbledon semi (i forgot which year but pretty sure it was sampras' last wimbledon) and sampras lost. i heard from this forum that they are going to play against each other later this year in malysia (or indonisia). one guy (from this forum again) point out that sampras is a better player than federer and the reason he was not achive as much as federer is because he faced more charllenging at the time he played. i didn't believe this theory but now i tend to believe it. however, federer is also improve and we will see. he might get even better later.

It wasn't Sampras' last Wimbledon, he won that one. I think it was the one that broke hie winning streak.
