What is your favorite religious food? When do you make it (like the day before or the day of . . ..)? How do you make it? Is it taken from a book of your faith (the ingredients or the way it is made, etc.)? Was it passed down through your family? Is it a new tradition for you? Thank you for whatever you can answer.

I'd love to go to one, because I've heard great things, but I don't think there is one in Northern NY near the Canadian Border (Plattsburgh area), Northern VT (Alburg area) or Southern Canada (North of the Champlain Border). Almost everything is 7 hours away from me in NY City or Buffalo/Niagra Falls. Sometimes there is something in Albany- 3 hours away. So please tell me what you've had to eat so far there.

hmmm... everything at the hare krishna temples or homes is vegetarian... and most of the dishes are Indian and exotic... from George Harrison's favorite- fried, patato filled pastries to rich curries and vegetables and rice puddings everything is like ~ GREAT ~

We do not have a particular religious food, unless you can count hot cross buns. If I were Italian or Ukrainian like my sister-in-law, there would be a whole list. We do have food that we enjoy every Christmas. For instance, I usually make shortbread and mincemeat pie. I wanted to make plum pudding, but my husband's family were Mennonite and they have another dish, these new Years cookies or yeast risen fritters with raisins in them (very calorie laden) I have a weight problem so I do not make them. But I do have these almond squares, that is they have a shortbread crust and slithered almonds on top in a syrup that I make.

I certainly do count hot crossed buns. I made plum pudding once, it was really rich and sinful. My Mother used to make mincemeat pie from scratch--what work! I used to help. Never had yeast risen fritters. Sound delightful, like maybe fried bread dough, but never had fried bread dough with raisins in. Have had hot funnel cakes of the Amish. The almond squares sound almost as sinful as baklava! You have my mouth watering. I wish I had thought someone else would respond to my topic, I waited awhile before I chose best response, so I thought no one else would answer. Otherwise, I would have definitely given it to you for this. Great job! Sorry, I really thought the above would be my only choices. Thanks for all the drooling I'm doing over here! (Ha, ha, smile)
