Okay my husband and I are forever debating over a certain issue that I thought I would bring up for discussion here at mylot. Dusting or Vacuuming: Which do you do first? My mom thought me to always dust first then vacuum because that way you don't put dust on a clean carpet. So that is the way I have always done it. Now a couple of weeks ago my husband was helping clean. I headed into the bathroom to start there. While I was in there my husband started to vacuum before he ever dusted. I came out and asked him why he was vacuuming before dusting. I told him that the carpet is just going to get dirty again when you dust. His response to me was that when you vacuum last it just stirs up the dust and then you have dust on everthing again. Now I can't see how vacuuming could stir up dust it sucks it all up, but my husband is dead set on that it does.
So please share with me your thougts on this. Which do you do first? Why or why not?

Hi speedy I will agree with you thats what I do first is dust. And by the way I hate dusting! Vacuuming does stir up the things but not so much that you can notice it! Sometimes I will just vacuum and not even bother to dust. Only when Im feeling lazy. But dont you tell anyone.heheheheh

Well, I agree with you. I dust first before Vacuming as I would think that doing it the other way would defeat the purpose of vacuming. But I guess there is no real ideal way? Interesting discussion.

Oh your husband is so wrong! You are right- Always dust then vacuum- WHen you dust you get things on the floor- It's like sweeping the floor in the kitchen and then cleaning the counters- Hello! But hey he gets an A for effort and helping right-
I wonder how many other people vacuum and then dust?

Wht a situation?? I do dusting first then vaccum when i clean carpets becoz by dusting we can remove most of the dust and little work with vaccum.Coming to cleaning TV,wardrobe i vaccum first then do dusting or wipe with a cloth.Sometimes i use cleaners too.So i think it depends on the item we are going to work on.I think the way you are doing is correct and you save electricity too.

Hi there. Im with you on this one, dusting first then vacum following... For the very fact that it makes sense, to dust first, and go along and vacum up what I like to think is fallen dust lol... I wouldnt have it any other way... Good for you, keep it up...

I always dust before doing anything, vacuuming or sweeping because like you said - if one vacuums first then dusts, the dust will just fall on the clean carpet. If your vacuum blows dust everywhere, I would probably get a newer model, the older ones always blow off dust all over the place. We have two vacuums at home, a cordless one that's very light and a big one that works by putting water in a bowl, and it sucks everything into the water. None of these blow off dust. So I guess both you and your hubby are right, but you just need a better vacuum ;)

I agree with you. Dust first and then vacuum. I see more dust flying around when I dust than when I vacuum. It just seems to make more sense to me.
