Laptop? or PC?

I fritzed my Dell Inspiron 8100(a very reliable workhorse I've had for close to 8 years) by flooding the top with hot herbal green tea. So now, I am faced with a dilemma. If I had a PC and spilled the tea on the keyboard, that's not too much harm done. But with a laptop, liquid kills the motherboard (DOH!) and it costs more to get it fixed than to get a new computer. I have a choice to make now: laptop? or PC? My family is no help at all in this decision making--all I get are snarky comments. So my dear myLot friends, what would you suggest?

Oooohh! There's one of my favourite Blondes! I know, I know, I shall never hear the end of it. I am now the butt of jokes and unfortunately I only have myself to blame! I am so sorry to hear that your leg is giving you problems. Are you still going to that physio person? I will send you some Reiki energy just to get the discomfort eased a bit. It helps me a lot with my leg and back. Big HUGS to you and the Patchouli Kid! {{{{{{{{{{gabs/gissi}}}}}}}}}

Laptop or the PC is a very common question that arises in the minds of the People who are either trying to get a new system or trying to replace the old one or spoiled one.
In your case, since you have already used the system, you yourself will have some comfort level on PC as well as the Laptop. So with that you should be able to decide on which one to go far. Also it depends on the Finance level of you currently. I prefer to go with the Laptop , but at the same time I will decide to be more careful in the future too.

Thanks for the advice, senthil2k. I know that I have been guilty of being careless when it comes to eating and computing! I will certainly not do that again. As a matter of fact, I have mended my ways. Thanks for the great response. :-D

Yes, I agree with you, Asylum, that a desktop would be the better buy for now. Besides, in a pinch, I can always borrow hubby's laptop (but he's so territorial with it! sigh...) Thanks for your response. :-D

I have a PC and I like it a lot more than the idea of having a laptop - but perhaps that's only because I've never had a laptop so I don't really know what it's like. It highly depends on a few things: your budget, do you need something that's portable, do you have space for monitor, CPU and keyboard...
If the only thing that's stopping you is the fear of spilling herbal tea again, then you might want to try getting an anti-spill laptop, they have it now.

Really??? An anti-spill laptop? How cool is that!!! I'd love more info if you have access to it. Who makes it? Is it very expensive? This sounds like the answer to a computer addicted klutz like me! I am anxiously awaiting your response, and thanks for the heads-up about this new type of laptop! ((((THANKS!))))

Take a laptop and stop drinking tea :)
I love my notebook. I try not to eat in front of it. I saw a notebook at the place I bought this one. It was left there to be cleaned. The guy at the store showed me how harmful it can be to eat in front of it. It was full of ants. Hundreds of little ants eating the inside of the computer.

Eeeewww! Thanks for such a graphic description, Daelin! I certainly would not want ants in my pant...er...motherboard! I have to admit that I was really baaaad when it came to eating and computing. I think I will do my best not to drink (or eat) and ruin the hard drive (variation of do not drink and drive!) Thanks for your response... :-D

That's a sorry excuse for mangling the "don't drink and drive" slogan. (roll eyes) Can't do rhymes this early in the morning. Sorry... :-Z

You are right on the money with the PC being cheaper than a laptop. My daughter and her friend built her PC from scratch two years ago and it is very powerful (needs to be, in order to run her graphic designer apps) and it is less than the price of my old laptop when I bought it 8 years ago! Thanks for your practical response, tkyass...:-D
