The Blessing Moon/Grain Moon on Lammas Eve... Amazing!

On July 30th there was a Full Moon, the Blessing Moon in Wiccan belief, and the Grain Moon in Saxon belief. The skies were very clear here, and I watched the Moon come up behind the church. It was very bright and silver, lighting the sky to a rich, midnight blue colour. Hey, I thought that was good!! I watched it for about an hour, as it rose to its high point in the sky.
But then, the following night was Lammas Eve, 31st July. Again, the skies were clear, so I watched for the Moon to come up again, expecting similar to the previous night. As it rose above the church tower, I stood in awe... it was still silver in the middle, but the strength of the light was more subdued. Why? Because there was this golden coloured mist wrapped around the Moon, like a cloak, which hit me as a sign.
I interpreted the sign to be one of great blessings of wealth and abundance, richness in the harvest of life's ripened seeds. I couldn't move away... it was as though I felt something was about to happen. I stood, rooted to the spot with my window wide open for well over and hour, whilst this beautiful gold shrouded, silver moon, moved across the sky to a position where I could no longer see it without straining my neck.
A Magickal Moment indeed, and one which I will never forget. Did anybody else see this Moon?

I hunger to look at the Moon in her radiance and do often regret that in places where she used to be seen ruling the sky, her dominance becomes less apparent due to the encroachment of city lights. I did not see the view moon you enjoyed, but it sounds just amazing, and I have seen other things in the sky that evoked such a feeling. Once it was the aurora borealis.
Thank you for describing the Grain Moon and its aura in such lovely detail.

Now, that is something I always wanted to see... and hope I'm going to make it someday. The Northern Lights are amazing... I have to see them at least once!
Sometimes, when there's a special moon due, it might just be worth getting outside the city boundaries, for a peek. :)
Brightest Blessings.

Oh, yes, I sometimes go far out into the desert where you can still see stars and that sort of thing just to marvel at the beauty of the blackness of night. The little town we moved to WAS out in the middle of nowhere and USED to have dark nights and brilliant star shine, but nearby areas are becoming so popular that we are now getting thousands of new people every month and the sky is not nearly as dark as it used to be.
It is really hard to take great photos of the Northern Lights, but those by Stefnisson from Iceland, and the ones John Russel takes in Nome, Alaska are a special treat. This shot is unusual because it was taken at dusk:

Obudzinski has also taken some exceptional photos of the aurora borealis, including a series shot in Sedona, Arizona.

Yes, I like to watch the sunrise and sunset too. When the Sun comes up and there are fluffy clouds, they are all edged with the light of the rising orb, turning them a shimmering silvery gold colour. Then, when it sets, the sky to the west is a beautiful sea of reds and purples.

Sorry I'm so late in responding to this Unisis, but I only just spotted it. Yes, the Moon phases do vary in different parts of the World. I'm in the U.K., so I watch basically for the phases here.
I enjoy Sunrise and Sunset too. These events certainly provoke some thoughts, huh? Brightest blessings.

Honey, I just love these discussions. I learn so much from you. You are so knowledgeable on the ways of our sweet mother earth.I often think about all my friends from other places when I see the moon and wonder if it will look the same to you all.I didn't go out on so I didn't see it. I wish I had.
