My little girl is 10 months old and her hair is getting a little shaggy but I don't want to cut her hair. I don't think that she'll sit still very well to get her hair cut. How old were your kids when they got their fist haircut? Any tips to make it go smoother???

My son was born with a lot of hair. So I gave him a trim when he wasn't even a week old. If we brushed his hair down, it was in his eyes and it covered his ears, so I had to cut it.
Since then, he's been getting a haircut every 6 weeks or so. His hair is curly and he smears food in it, so I like to keep it short so it's easier to take care of.
When you do decide to get her hair cut, bring lots of stuff to distract her. Talk to her about it, and let her watch someone else get their hair cut first, so she knows what to expect.

My daugher was 6 years old. And, that was the only time, and last time to get her hair cut.
10 months is young. If she should move, she could get cut. As she will want to watch you, and might get scared to see the scissors. I think 2 or 3 years old would be easier. Put some gell on her hair for now to keep it down and neat.

My son was 18 months when he had his first haircut. Then also I did not want to shave it off coz it was so soft and wavy. I used to tie it up into two lil’ ponytails and he looked sooooo cute. People mistook him for a girl and he smiled a lot with two teeth just showing. Oh! those days…enjoy them, they will be gone in the blink of an eyelid. No tips as such, I believe barbers are used to doing it and its pretty safe with seasoned barbers.

my eldest son (who's turning 5yrs old) got his first haircut at 1 year old. here in the philippines, there's some sort of tradition that children have to have their first haircut on their first bday.
we prepared him weeks before on how the hair-cutting procedure will go about. we showed him pictures from the internet of kids getting a haircut and tried to act it out with him during playtime. so he was more or less ready on the day itself. the session went on smoothly. the hair-stylist in the kiddie salon was surprisedat how behaved my son was.
my new daughter who just turned 1 last april has never had a professional haircut. only my husband and i make snips here and there on her hair. this is because she can't sit still. we tried brining her to the kiddie salon but she just won't stay put. so her hair looks kind of haphazardly cut now. but it looks like it was styled that way though. she's still cute!

My son had lots of hair when he was born. So my husband had a haircut for our little baby when he was about 1 month old. I still keep the hair because it's so precious. My husband did it when our baby was sleeping. It's safer and easier.
