Worrying is bad. Why should you worry?

I've come across some topics laid down by Dr. Edward Bodowiski in his book "Leave Worrying and Seek Betterment". He stated that if we worry too much, there are 7 consequences which will arise later in life. They are: 1. Heart disease 2. High Blood Pressure 3. Reumatism Arthritis 4. Bowel Syndrome 5. Cold and Flu 6. Depression and Thyroid 7. Diabetes What is you opinion on this? Have you come across the statement from your doctor or someone you know? What do you think? Do you believe worrying will cause all 7 ailments above? Please share your thoughts with me.

..And, I write. - In writing, I find my solitude.
Hi ladysurvivor! :) To worry about something means you put yourself to distress. Worries may be about our past, present status and the future. Well, worrying about the past can no longer change the past. We can no longer move time and go back to it. Right? To worry about the future is useless because we cannot what the future will be. And worrying today just makes us miserable, which can lead to depression (as you mentioned above). Learn to embrace the positives of life. :) Do something where you can be more productive. And the greatest of all: Pray and ask for His divine guidance. (",) take care and God bless! =)

Yup! Put a time limit on any worry and concern, and pray and leave it in His hands.. as the bible says "restfully and confidently waiting for him". - "Why worry? Pray!" As the saying goes.. - I'm just now reminded of a plaque a friend of mine (now passed on) used to have. It said "Why worry? God's still on the throne." I thought that was pretty kool. :)

Yeah, I suppose you're right. We shouldn't worry. Life is short, and we should be happy and think positively. And thanks for the reply!

It really is bad for one's self to worry with out reason. Most times we fuss over things that we just cannot change. So why worry about the unchangeable? Its better to just try to find proper ways to deal with the frustration...

So true! Worry doesn't change anything. When I simply must worry, I put a time limit on it! Then move on to other things.

Yeah, why worry when there are many happy things we can think about.

I don't know as I have read this so much as have known it sort of instinctively. I really do think stress is a root cause of most illness! And so I think all should have deep relaxation as a regular part of our their days. :)

Worrying is not good although I do worry about things sometimes. I am really trying hard to break that habit. The best thing to do about worry in my opinion is to tell God about your concerns and have faith and believe that He is going to take care of it all and leave it at that.

Yes, I believe his studies. I have been involved with metaphysics for years and have come to accept that our thoughts and emotions definitely affect our biology and general state of health. It has become more commonly accepted because of leaders in the field of mind-body medicine. Candice Pert (candiceper.com) has devoted her life to studying what she calls the biology of emotions...or psychoneuroimmunology. When the body is under stress it secretes a hormone called cortisol...and it can have damaging effects on the body. The known benefits of things like yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, positive thinking, affirmations have been researched and there is enough documentation out there to 'proove' Dr. Bodowiski's hypothesis. I have a sign in our kitchen that says it all for me; "Today is the tomorrow we worried about yesterday...and all is well." Most of what we worry about never happens anyway and time and personal growth have shown me that worrying about the past or the future is a futile waste of time and energy...and yes, bad for your health to boot!

Well..looks like my 'don't worry--be happy approach' to this topic appealed to you. Thanks a heap for the best response on this one too...your validation of my perspective means a lot!

Hi, we meet again i think, and yes you are right that worrying would certainly cause all these problems and worse is why should we worry? As my granny always used to say that we shoul worry about things that have no slutions and i think everything has a solution so we should instead try and work out some way when we can end that worry, so that we are happier from within and more content and happy. No and these things or probems have not been told to me by my doctr etc, but self experienced in a way, as i used to worry a lot and fell sick too, till i read all this and discussed with many people and realised that it comes to this in the end.

well, i believe none of us want to keeping in worry. it just sometimes happened in us when we are in uncomfortable condition or in not good mood. and its depend on the person how to overcome it. it can be soon or take little bit longer to overcome it. but something sure sooner you can overcome your worrying, it will be good for your own self and you already know how to maintain your emotional very well

A person who doesn't worry can also suffer those ailments. I think this was a pretty shallow thing for this bloke to state...ridiculous even.

It isn't just worry that can create health problems but by chronic worry it can lead to stress, and it is felt that almost all diseases in general, including cancer are caused by the worry/stress syndrome--having stressful, worrisome, negative emotions and concerns breaks down the physiological system....so maybe that song "Get Happy" is not too off the mark...I know it's hard to be in a constant good and positive mood, but being in such a more positive frame of mind is far healthier...

Of course worry and tension are the catalyst of dangerous disease. I am complately agreed with your comments..But there is no alternative in this corporate world of heavy workload..everybody has to take tension for existence..but there are some other alternatives to lessen worry like laugh therapy..Be happy

Laughing therapy really helps. I notice whenever I laugh a lot in a day, I am more energized and didn't feel even a bit trace of fatigue. Thanks for reminding me. God bless, and have a nice day!

Stress and Worry are indeed factors in many Modern day Ailments -Hear Disease,High BP etc as mentioned here.I am not too sure about Arthritis though.I think that is primarily a Physical problem . And yes,Stress is also counted as one of the cause for premature greying of hair and Dandruff. I too try some meditation etc to get rid of worry and Stress.

yes that is the Lord Jesus said that no one can Had a single second to his life by worrying, it kills but i think that the problem of this world is that they do not think out of thier problems but they worry about thier problem.

I do believe that worrying and stress cause the body to let down its guards and allow health conditions to get started. Nothing good ever comes from worrying. It's a time-waster if nothing else. It achieves nothing except making a person feel bad, and the results will be the same with our without worrying about what's going to happen. I'd rather spend my time in serenity than in worry, and I've discovered that I am able to make the choice. I am 56 years old and proud to say that I haven't been sick since October, 2003. I give a lot of credit to the lack of worry in my life (even though there could be a lot like with everyone else).

I am not sure whether it would cause all 7 ailments but most probably Depression, High Blood Pressure and probably Heart disease. It's hard not to worry about things nowadays especially in our own lives.

This is a real problem for me because I tend to worry a lot. I don't know if it will actually cause those illnesses, but I have noticed that most of my worries turned out to be useless, meaning they did not come true. So now I'm trying to think more positive, but it's easier said than done when you're faced with a lot of challenges.

I think worry is a normal part of our lives, it is the minds way of sorting out problems. Sometimes I think its beyond our control, and the thoughts just filter into our minds. Why worry we can't control it anyway. yes I believe that worry brings about some of the mentioned diseases.
