Freak Accident

I was listening to the news last night and heard a report about a man in Florida who was driving down the highway. Evidently he opened his door to spit-and fell out of his car. He suffered critical injuries. Have you or someone you know ever had a freak accident?

I guess that's one of the reasons you should wear your seatbelt. Why would you even need to open your door to spit? What was wrong with his window? I'd call that more of a stupid accident than freak...but that's just me. I know of lots of accidents, don't know whether they'd be considered freak. I mean, my dad was walking across the street one night and got hit by a car. It was night, raining and foggy out and the idiot who was driving didn't have their lights on so my dad didn't see them and they didn't see my dad. He was going to see if these other people who'd had an accident were ok. Actually I also knew someone else who was driving to dinner with his gf for his birthday and this drunk woman just walked out right in front of his car. Like literally without anytime for him to stop or see her. Her head smashed the windshield...and she was in a coma. Don't know what ever happened to her. However, the family wasn't mad at the guy I knew because it wasn't his fault and she was clearly drunk and didn't know what she was doing walking out onto a main highway. They're the two I can think of off the top of my head.

Gee, raychill, sorry about your dad, but there are all kinds of inconsiderate drivers out there. I have one granddaughter who is one. She is a real terror on the road. Hope the drunk woman eventually recovered.

Luckily the only thing that happened to my dad was that he broke his leg. It was near christmastime too so all our christmas photos from that year has my dads cast in them. It's kinda sad how careless people are on the road. From speeding to driving to slow to not paying attention to the road to just not obeying any of the rules of the road. I mean, How hard is it to use your blinkers or pull over on the side of the road if you're lost instead of stopping in the middle of the road or creeping along at 10 mph to find the road you're looking for!

You've got that right, jolene. He probably would have been better off just spitting out of the window.

Gee, I guess the seat belt/shoulder harness failed. They can save your life in a collision but can't keep you in the car when you open the door to spit. I wouldn't say this is such a freak accident. It totally could have been prevented. Having a bridge collaspe while you are driving over it might be a freak accident. Then again it might have been preventable with proper maintenance. To me a freak accident happens when it involves an event that was in some way not preventable. Just my view.

When I was a kid we lived in Texas and had a gas heater to heat the house. You had to kneel down, turn the valve and then light a match to the burner inside. The first time I did it I took too long lighting the match and when I put it to the burner inside it WHOOSH'ed right in my face and burnt my eyebrows off...luckly I wear glasses. I was about 14 at the time and still do not like doing anything with gas, natural or propane. Thank God our apartment is all electric. LIVE IN PEACE
