I think this is a habit many people have. You see a cop on the side of the road...you hit the brakes check your speedometer. I hate that! But cops can get you for anything... seriously if it's quota time they can make stuff up. I know this as I've seen this happen. Cops have quotas they have to make usually each month for things like tickets. So when it gets to be that time (usually the end of the month) they will be on patrol. My dad once got pulled over. He took off his seatbelt to reach over to the glovebox...(who can reach that thing to get your registration with the seatbelt on!?) and the cop gave him a ticket for not wearing his seatbelt. The belt was ON until he got pulled over. A friend of my brothers once got pulled over because this car was behind her... got in the other lane and sped up to try and cut her off. She wouldn't let them and the road curved so only that one lane could go to the right and the car had to get back behind her. She never went over the limit. The car was an undercover cop. Pulled her over... asked her for only her license. came back with a ticket for not having her registration. She HAD it...he didn't ask for it. Cops can be very vicious and vindictive and quite frankly disgusting human beings. I'm always cautious when I'm around them. I also ALWAYS have my license and registration ready for them before they ever come to my window if I get pulled over...and I give it to them whether they ask for it or not. That way I never get a ticket for that. I also always am as polite as possible with them. ugh. I loathe them.

Thats really messed up with your father and your brother's friend.Im sure they seen your father with the seatbelt on at first. They just did that on purpose. That really sucks.Especially around the holidays and the 1st of the month they are out like vultures trying to meet that quota.

I think you always have to be on your best and prepared for anything around cops. Unless...as the person below me said...You know a cop. You know a cop you can get away with murder. Hence again..why I think cops can be horrible human beings.

I disagree with the previous post that if you know a cop you can get away with murder...I also disagree that cops are horrible people...they're not...they're just people.

I know people who comment that the "pigs" are following when we are in a car together. I correct them by saying that "Yes, the police are driving around". The kids repeat the parents bad choice of words. I want them to know that they protect and serve and the correct wording is "police". Why freak out and get upset when you have nothing to worry about.

"Pigs" is an old 60's term for cops. So is "the man".

I always check to make sure I'm going under the speed limit when I see a cop, and I make sure that I'm not doing anything that might make me swerve (like handing my son in the backseat something), but that's really it. They don't really make me nervous. I've been pulled over so many times. A lot of times for really stupid things. But I've only got one ticket. One night alone, I got pulled over 3 times within a half hour because I had a headlight out. I'm sure the reason was because it was really late and they were just checking to see if I was drinking, but it was still annoying. IN three of the four towns I had to go through to get from my friend's house to mine, I got pulled over. It sucked. I didn't get any tickets, though.

Annoying? How annoying would it be for you to be hit head on by a truck or another car (anything, really) because the other driver thinks you are a motorcycle due to one headlight? You drive in the dark night with one headlight, you're more than annoying -- you're an accident waiting to happen, and I hope you're not handing your son in the backseat something if this happens. Be happy you didn't get in a wreck and kill someone. I'm glad the cops are "on it", and frankly, you should've been ticketed, maybe you wouldn't be so arrogant about road safety and other people's lives. I've seen people scraped off the road -- I used to be an emergency medical technician.

I do, but yet I also just got my liscense a week ago. I dont know, i can relate to them though. Even when your doing absolutely nothing wrong, it still makes me nervous that they're gonna pull me over. I just kind of think that they're all uptight and will pull you over every chance they get, which is probably untrue, but its how I feel when they follow behind me

the only people that "panic" when "5-0" rolls up are those that are ACTIVE users and used in the past OR have been in jail and are worried of something. As a recovering EVERYTHING and having done time I know this. NOW I am a piano play, singer/writer for 2 churches and a Pentecostal Evangelical minister- I no longer worry about when cops are coming- When you ARE innocent- you do NOT worry.

I only get irritated when the copper is driving as if trailing me, watching if I will will commit a traffic offence. On many occassions like this, I either increase my speed keeping in mind the speed limit or I pull over to let him pass. lol

Hey see you after long time....think u were busy so not here? Yes I get nervous if I see the police behind me...last year we were comming from Galvaston and there was a cop on the side of the road and watching traffic, we were at a speed more than 95 and yes, he started following us, but we did not run away, stopped and got the ticket but at first i was so nervous, messing up with all our conversasions....now we laugh at that

I think it is funny too! People kill me with that one. I wonder alot of times, what is the big deal, they have to drive to. I feel like if you are legal then you have nothing to worry about. Thats when they pull you when you start freaking out.LOL!! I guess there are people like that everywhere.

No, I really don't get nervous, as long as I am driving and not speeding, I am ok, with the Police being behind me. Better wear those seat belts though. You will definely get a fine.

Yes it is normal during driving there are the police cause their duty is on the road ,I never nervous if the police behind or passing me cause I always check to make sure I am going under the speed limit and I make sure I obey the law and I do not do anything that might make me swerve , but that is really ,they do not make me nervous.

I do too. I am always afraid I'll speed or do something wrong. Of course being nervous makes me more distracted and more likely to do something wrong.

Hey, some of us can't take the heat. That is why we stay from behind the wheel. I have panic attacks and some may say that my mind is bad, but for me, it is all good. You know, there are things that can happen in a person's life that can be so tragic that anytime something comes close to reminding them of that, they freak out. Just before I moved in with my sister and her six children, they would leave the children home alone. A few times, the cops were called. They threatened to take the children away if they ever found them alone again. At the time the oldest one was 10 and the youngest was 4. From that point on, everytime the baby would hear that the police were anywhere close to the house, she would go and hide in the closet and there was no talking her out. You should ask your friend why she reacts like that. You may be surprised at her answer.

See, it could be something that happened so long ago that she doesn't even remember any more, but she is still reacting to it. My niece could be married with children and still be running to the closet whenever she hears about the cops being near. Unless her family continues to remind her of why, she may not remember any longer.
