Starting today, August 3 to August 4 is tax free weekend here in Louisiana. During tax free weekend their is no state tax, which is 4 percent, but we still have to pay for local tax on whatever we purchase this weekend. This was design to help parents pay for their children school supplies and clothing. It is a big help. Theres no sales tax on items up to $2500. This does not apply to purchases of vehicles and prepared food. Do your state or country offer a tax free weekend? So this weekend I will shop till I drop. Enjoy your weekend.

Wow, 4 percent! Where I live in New York, the tax is 8.35 percent... more than double. Anyway, where I live, there are often tax-free WEEKS, varying on the product. For example, there's a week where there's no taxes on all clothing items. Then there's a week (restaurant week?) where restaurants don't tax, and instead pull out various cheap specials (such as three courses for $25 or the like). These events happen so often, I really find it hard to keep track.

Now that is nice. It would be nice to have tax free weeks here. But the sales tax in NY is too high. Our state and local tax adds up to 9 percent.

I agree with you. But they say the state is losing money that way, by having tax free weekends.
