Unfair Medicare Change

I have started working in a medical billing company. I made a shocking and disturbing discovery recently. The Medicare deductible, which used to be $200 a year, has now jumped to over $900 a year. How do they expect our elderly to be able to make that deductible on a fixed income? I know of some that had trouble with the $200. Can someone explain this to me? Why would this raise make sense to ANYONE? I can only see this hurting the elderly, not helping.

Get all the money you can before they croak? I can explain it - the country obviously doesn't care about its older americans. It is ridiculous. United States is a great country but we don't take care of our elderly. I love cultures, some extinct now, that revere their elderly. Respect them for what they've done in their lifetimes and the wisdom they have to impart. My mom is a senior citizen who lives in a do it yourself assisted living center. With this jump, things may prove difficult for her - especially if she develops some major health problems. Thanks for posting such an important topic.

Glad I could put the word out! NOW I understand why older people have to have 2 or more insurance policies. It's a crummy thing to do to people that have done many things with their lives...including giving birth to the same jerks that are doing this to begin with! I knew lots of elderly that had problems with the $200 deductible. How in the world are they supposed to manage this?!!

This doesn't make sense, but unfortunately this doesn't stop the government from doing things like this. They won't be satisfied until half the United States is uninsured and up to their ears in debt.

I agree. It doesn't make sense. We need to get someone in office that actually CARES about the people, not just the ones that contributed to the campaign. If these people pay for Medicare and the deductible is higher than most private insurances, maybe they should see about changing. I know I have never had a deductible that high with any of mine.

The business looks at it like if the old people die then they don't have to pay for their medical expenses anymore. It is a shame that they take advantage of those who need it most. If there is a hell there are a lot of greedy people who will be burning in it.

That still is pretty crappy. What about the medical agencies that will send collections after their estates? Or bother them about the payments on the balance until they DO die? These are supposed to be the Golden Years. It's bad enough if they have major health problems. They paid in their money all those years and shouldn't have to worry about the Medicare wolf at their doors now. I DO hope there are MANY greedy people burning. I thought we were supposed to HELP the elderly, not try to bleed them dry.
