Your opinion on metal music

What does first come in your mind when you see a metal fan or hear metal music? Do you turn your facial expression into loathing and disgust or you tolerate/enjoy it? I like metal music, but I don't quite like metal fans. Just because I listen to bands like Slayer, Lamb Of God, Machine Head and others doesn't mean that I have to have 6ft long hair and don't wash it two months, be all in black and have an urge to bash any other music. I'm sick of all these stereotypes. In fact, metal is just one of the many genres I enjoy. I also like jazz, blues, rock, even some hip hop...I do my best not to be a close minded a*hole Please discuss

whenever i heard rock metal music i started banging my head.. jumping, singing the song, get wild,.. its my way of losing my depression or if stress at work, life.. whenever i'm sad, just go to rock concert in an hour and get a nice sleep and whoala.. i'm all good after that.. just like you i enjoy jazz, blues.. or let's just say all genres except dance/electornica music... that's all good day!

Me too, it's a really good anti-stress activity...getting rid of negative energy that everyday life causes us to have...

dude i quite agree with you on this one. i have a similar type of music sense.i like listening to all kinds of music especially to metal(all genres of metal) but am not at all fascinated by the attitude and dress sense of some metal fans.listening to bands like CHILDREN OF BODOM,IN FLAMES,CRADLE OF FILTH doesn't mean that i have to dress like them to appreciate their music. i love and simply adore metal bands but don't quite agree with their get up. from that viewpoint the best dress up i can refer to is that of IN FLAMES where they care more about their music than their dress.

Definitely...it is not even the stereotypes in dressing that concern me, but their attitude, they act like they are the top of the world and everything else sucks if it's not ''tr00''...

I am a lover of music, may they be whatever genre of rock can be. Metal, Hard Rock, Grunge and Alternative Rock, are all but just a category/genre of rock music. As long as I can relate to the band and the music, I listen to it. This also does not mean that I have to grow my hair long, dress and act like them. For my very own reason is, I have to live and express my life by my own decisions. Well I listen to some ballads, love songs and other types of music..

I am a metal fan, however I dont listen to all metal. I listen to some country and classic rock as well. Throw in some grunge and we have my musical taste. sure when I listen to metal it may be loud. and I may act like a metalhead with the headbanging and the throwing of the horns. I don't have the metal hairstyle either. matter of fact I usually have a nearly bald head each time i get my hair cut. And I will say this for people who think people that listen to metal like all types of metal. I don't, I dont like to listen to Black Metal and listening about church burnings or killing people and satan and all that crap they talk about in the little black metal songs they have.

i like all kind of music, whether it is hard music or easy listening music! For me,heavy metal also need a space to be a popuplar music genre! I'm also like the heavy metal band such as Slayer! so,what's wrong if we just like them! It's not fault!I just enjoy to hear a variety of music genre!

Generally I'm not crazy about metal music. However, i do like some of the older "metal" groups or more traditional groups who did some metal, like King Crimson, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, etc.

I love metal! It's so full of energy and plain old kicka** attitude. But I totally agree, you don't have to flaunt a stereotype in order to enjoy it. Plus there's all sorts of music out there to discover, and no use just being closed into one genre.

I guess this will date me, but here goes... I was a head-banger back when the hair bands were big. I also liked Judas Priest. I still do. I had the stereotype of 'freak' when I was in school because I liked that music. What was really funny was I also liked New Wave and Country. People will always stereotype. They can't be bothered to look a little closer at the real person.

i can only listen to that kind of music for a max of one song per day, more than that.. it gives me a headache no offense though, i'm not judgemental, its just that my ear is not compatible to that kind of music
