I am a huge movie fan and have about 200 movies, if not more, on VHS that I've taped from TV over the years. The tapes have become old and the pictures distorted so I've started replacing them by buying the movies on DVD. The picture is so clear and crisp. There are only 3 drawbacks to this: some of the movies were made by the TV station and they are hard if not impossible to find on DVD, the DVD's are costly, and you have to change the DVD after each movie. Even with these drawbacks I still prefer DVD's. I also prefer Fullscreen to Widescreen. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all those VHS tapes...I hate throwing them away lol. What about you? Which do you prefer and why? Whats the best place you've found for buying your favorite? (Mines Deep Discount DVDs) What are the pros and cons of your preference? LIVE IN PEACE

I am a HUGE fan of DVDs. They are so much easier and smaller than VHS. I take them to work with my personal DVD player and sometimes I play them on my computer. I love widescreen compared to full screen. When I have an option of two disk to one disk of a particular movie, I always have to go with the two disk. I still have my VHS tapes although I don't watch them very much. I have found that ebay.com, amazon.com and walmart is the best place to buy DVDs.

Another con to DVDs is that sometimes they get stratched but there is stuff out there to take out the stratches and they end up playing like brand new again.

If you happen to know the name of the stuff to use on scratches I'd love to know. I have a couple I'd love to restore that were given to me. LIVE IN PEACE

DVD is obviously better than VHS, but to stock up on DVDS would be silly since High Definition televisions are to become the standard and therefore high definition dvds such as Blu-ray and HDDVD are what you'll need to play.

Well, our TV is about 6 years old and runs great so I don't see us replacing it anytime soon. To be honest, I wouldn't bother to replace the VHS tapes but most are so old and worn that they either won't play or the picture is so distorted that you can't see it. I don't know much about the Blu-ray or HDDVD's but I don't see me replacing my DVD's just b/c something newer hit the market. As I understand it DVD's will play in a HDDVD player so even if I have to replace my DVD player my DVD's should be fine. I guess if my DVD's need replacing in a few years then I will look into whatever is a good replacement at that time. I have seen some ppl who will toss out perfectly good DVD's just b/c something new came along and I think thats a waste. Besides it seems like something new and improved is always coming out. I'm happy to just get my movies on DVD where I can watch them again. LIVE IN PEACE

I have my VCR and my old VHS tapes that I have recorded off of TV, and movies that I have bought. I will keep it for as long as it works. I have a DVD player in my computer, but I don't have one attached to my TV, because my TV is old. I am happy watching DVDs on my laptop. I buy all new movies as DVDs.

My brother watches all his on his pc but I like to relax in my big comfy chair and put my feet up when I watch them. I also only buy new movies as DVD's. LIVE IN PEACE

I have a lot of VHS tapes also, and i am going to keep them since I still have a VCR. I prefer dvds, but I cannot afford the expense of replacing all my VHS.

It is a big expense but we pick 3-4 a month and slowly we are getting them replaced. I think if they were still in really good shape and played well I wouldn't worry about replacing them but alot of them are so worn that you can't make out the picture or it won't play at all. LIVE IN PEACE

I like dvd's better, because they're so much easier to use. You can go forward or backwards if you missed something, and on some machines, you can enlarge portions of the picture. I've got a lot of old vhs tapes, and I've replaced the movies I had on a lot of them with dvds. The old tapes have lost quite a bit of quality over the years. For my old home movies on vhs, I bought a vhs to dvd burner, and I'm converting them. Hopefully, that will help me to keep the old family videos in good shape for years. I usually buy my dvd's from Amazon.

Like you my VHS have lost alot of quality and some refuse to play at all. I also like being able to skip to certain areas and rewind/fast forward quickly. I also love not having to rewind the tape. LIVE IN PEACE
