Have you ever went to bed or left your home while drying cloths in your dryer?? Recently, we had a fire in one of the other apartments. They found out the fire started from not removing lint from the lint trap. The woman and her teenage son who live there were gone and she had put the cloths in to dry before she left. Luckly, a neighbor spotted it, there was no one hurt and very little damage to the apartment. Years ago, a friend of the family had a daughter that had a big home in the country and put cloths in to dry just before going to bed. The dryer shorted out, started a fire and burned the house to the ground killing the daughter, her husband and their little girl. Since then I never ever run the dryer unless I am home and awake and can keep an eye on it. I also keep fire extinguishers near the laundry closet and in the kitchen. Better safe then sorry. What about you? LIVE IN PEACE

I'm always using my dryer before I go to bed, or when I go out, but I always check the lint trap and clean it before every load. I never thought about it catching fire. I suppose any electrical appliance could short out and cause a fire. My husband is an electrician, and he's always going around making sure our wires are safe. But it still makes me nervous to think about it.

I do not leave the dryer running if I am not around to keep an eye on it, unfornutaly dryer fires are very common. I have a long handled brush made to get down in the lint trap and I use it often but even at that its unreal how much lint gets behind the filter and it builds up fast.I try to keep a good eye on itand keep it as clean as possible but I have seen many peoples dryer filters that look like they havnt been cleaned in years. unreal.
