i'm a lady teacher in a school which is unnecessarily strict. here even upper class girl students, may be 18+, r punished for any shortcoming.not only teacher, the monitors are also empowered to to give punishment.even a monitor from lower class can punish girls uppper classes. everyday you can see the girls are being punished standing up in the corridors or kneeldown.it's really embarassing for older girls.i protest many time in the meeting but with no results.

I think it depends on what the punishments are for. The punishment needs to fit the crime. I don't see how humiliation will solve the problem. There is a way to punish without embarrasing someone. For some people that could be dangerous especially if they have emotional problems going on. I would protest because it would be a shame for something to happen before someone does something about it.
