Is Your Job...

a perfect fit or just work? I know that I've had jobs over the years that I had to force myself to go in and struggled to get through the day. I just got a new job that I absolutely love and it's a joy to go in even though I have to travel an hour and a half each way to get there and back home. So, is your job something you are happy to go to each day or do you simply work there because you need the pay check?

My job is a combination of both. I'm a software tester and I just sort of fell into the profession as an offshoot of a job I used to have. I'm always noticing mistakes and have a knack for finding problems in software and things so it's definitely a natural fit. But it is stressful, I work tons of hours, and there is very little enjoyment in it as basically I am notifying people where they made mistakes so it's not the most popular position on the totem pole. I like it for the most part but there are aspects of it that I just hate. The problem is that I make a ridiculous amount of money and I work from home so it eases the pain of working 70 hours a week.

First of all, you are very fortunate to be able to work from home and I think you do realize that. I do have a suggestion for you that may make telling people when they make a mistake a little easier. Try to start by telling them something they are doing right and doing well and how much their efforts are appreciated before you tell them where they need improvement. It will not only make it easier for you to bear the negative but it will also make them appreciate your efforts to see their contributions, which should encourage them. Then, you won't be the bad guy because they will know you appreciate them. Even if no one else in the company appreciates them, they will know that you do and it will make working with them or talking with them much easier. People in general want to know that their efforts are appreciated. Putting forth just a little effort to appreciate your fellow workers will make you a hero in their eyes.

I think I didn't clarify my job well enough. It's not that I have to walk up and tell people that they've not done a good job. I have to test their software and find bugs and then I submit those bugs in a tracking system. So it's not that I am directly criticizing them, but I am finding faults with their work and sort of pick it apart. Sort of like proofreading. There's really not any opportunity to say oh hey you did a great job but I found these 95 things wrong with your software program. It just is what it is and I'm used to it, but it is hard to point out faults. I know I'd feel bad if at the end of every day I got a report of all the things that someone found that I did wrong.

i can say that i love my work coz i have lots of good friends there, but to tell you honestly the main reason why i stay there is bcz i want and i need to support my family--tho sometimes i wanna quit but just thinking of how my family survive w/o me working make me stop of resigning..huhuhu

I think that no matter how much we like our work, we all would like to stay home at times. That's just part of life. But if you have a good job that you enjoy for the most part, count your blessings because I know too many people who are miserable in what they do.

Does the job of being a stay at home mom with a teenager count? If so, I love it! The pay isn't great, but the joy of being able to be home with my family makes up for it. I've been staying at home for over a year now, and I really don't want to get back into the work force at the moment. And as long as hubby doesn't mind, I think I'll just continue the way I am. LOL

Of course it counts! Being a good Mom is probably one of the most important jobs there is and, as you said, the reward is in the joy of being with your family and knowing that you put your whole heart into them. I hope your teenager appreciates it. If not now, hopefully in the near future.

Thank you for the encouragement hon. My daughter absolutely loves having me at home with her now. She hated it when I was working and not home for her when she got out of school.

Mine is just a job. A place to make a living, but I am soon to be in an active search for another, more fullfilling one....I hope!

When I first got this job, I actually liked it. It's been almost 8 years, and I'd rather stay home, and scrub the toilet with a toothbrush. So I guess, that means I pretty much hate it. lol It's just too streeful, and I find myself dreading it so much.

The one thing I would love and be good at, is working with animals. I do that, already at home, with all my pets that the majority of, were strays. However, I don't make money for doing that. lol It actually cost me.

I work for myself. I write for a living. This makes my job a perfect fit. I am doing what I love, and I am doing it on my terms. Sure the money could be better, but since when is life all about money? The bottom line is that I love what I am doing.

I want your job, sort of. I'm working toward developing my own publishing/merchandising company so I can make a living writing and publishing and merchandising my stories and story characters, etc. I write children's stories and poetry and am working on getting my work published soon so can make money doing what I love as well.
