Scary Moments With Dogs and/or Animals

Last night my puppy Piper got ahold of a electrical wire and she chewed right through it. First I heard her yelping and then I heard the buzz of electricity. My mom unplugged the electrical wire and she got away from it thank god. This was at nine o clock at night and I called the Vet and he saw her on an emergency visit. Her little mouth is burnt on the inside and outside and her jaw is swelled quite huge. But he gave her a shot of Cortizone he said to protect her lungs because sometimes following an incident with electricity they develop what is called pulmonary edema where their lungs will fill with fluid and they drown. But this shot he gave her is supposed to protect that from happening. Atleast she is going to heal up and be ok.She is my baby and I can't imagine life without her now. What is the scariest moment you have ever had with your dog/cat or furry friend?

Poor Piper! I have raised dogs for years and had special ones. What am I saying? They are all special to me. There have been somany things that have scared me. The damages from fights have been the worst though. No matter how small(chihuahuas) or large(mastiffs) there is always the one who is Alpha and has to show their power over the others. I am glad you got Piper to the vet.

Oh dear, your poor furry baby. I am so happy that you went to vet right away, and pray that she will bo okay now. I have not had any bad, praise the Lord, things happen to my cats. I watch them constantly, as I have the time. I pull all electrical wires out each time I use an appliance, and am very careful near the shredder and the w/D. Good luck to you sugar.

We had that happen to a cat, when I was about 11 or 12. It messed her mouth up pretty bad, but she survived. Ironically, her name was Pretty. She wasn't that pretty, afterwards, but she was just as loving. I've had lots of pets, all my life, so I've had lots of scary things happen. Way too many to mention.

My dog (a pit mix) was attacked by a rotweiller and true to his nature he didn't fight back. He just let the dog bite at him and whined. He looked to me to break it up and protect him. That was pretty scary, because it took me a few minutes to get the other dog off of him.

Hope piper gets better. Once my jack russel terrier escaped from our house and started chasing this truck. I yelled at her as she ran along side of it completely ignoring me. She jumped alongside of the truck and knocked her head against it, I guess the shock made her stop running so I had enough time to grab her and bring her back inside. I thought she was going to be run over. That was pretty scary...

Poor dog! They do get into trouble, don't they? I had a kitten once, actually there were four of them. I had to clean their space so I made the stupid decision of putting them into a box, one of those cat box with big holes. One of the kittens made his stupid decision as well. He thought he could get away through the hole. It didn't pass. When I saw I began to cry in desperation, but I just took a breath and tried to figure out how to free him. I noticed that the box was made of wood, but not hard wood, it was more like hard paper. So I took a knife and the cat was free in minutes. It was really scaring.

Oh my! Poor Piper! I can imagine how upset are about her chewing through an electrical wire. I am glad your vet was able to do an emergency visit and I hope her mouth will heal soon. I love my two dogs very much and can't imagine my life without them. So I know exactly what you mean. I came into my lounge one morning to find the sofa covered in blood. My dog Secret was bleeding all over the place. I was so worried about him and so went straight to the vet. Luckily he sorted out the problem. My other dog, Magic, has been quite well in her life so far apart from a bit of sickness. I had two gerbils called Salt and Pepper. One day I came home from work and found a hole chewed in the side of the plastic home they lived in. Salt had got out of this and while she was out she chewed through my telephone's answer machine wire. Yes, it was lucky she did not chew any electrical wires like your puppy, Piper. I had some rabbits when I was a teenager and one of them was called Sally. She came out in the garden during the day and went in her cage at night. She was superb at digging holes. She manges to dig a hole right underneath our next door neighbor's garden. She went missing for nearly a week. I was very upset about this. I searched the area and put up posters about my missing rabbit. I was so miserable until hope was given in the form of a phone call. A lady told me she had found my rabbit in her garden. We went round to get her and I was delighted to get her back again. Wow! My mum's cat called Tiger went missing for a week. We were so very upset about this. He arrived back looking very weak and it looked like he might die from the lack of food and water. Luckily it wasn't too late for him. He got better I am very pleased to say. He is still alive today and I love him very much.
