Did your mom ever try to make a quilt?

When I was about five years old, my mom got the great idea to turn a bunch of old clothes into a puff quilt. So, we sat together and stuffed square pockets of fabric with batting for days on end. It's one of my better childhood memories. Unfortunately, she couldn't figure out how to sew the thing together once we had made all the "puff" pockets, (or maybe she just lost interest), so it ended up in a plastic bag in my closet. I was really looking forward to putting that quilt on my bed. And, I think the finished product would have been beautiful. Did your mom ever try quilting or some other handi-craft only to stick it in the closet half finished? What happened to the unfinished project? Did you find a way to complete the project when you got older?

I think this is the sweetest thing. I'm sure your mom had all good intentions to finish it. If I were you and your mom is still with you, I would find a way to finish it and give it back to her as a gift. Maybe display it somewhere where you can both enjoy the beauty of it. I personally don't remember projects like that with my mom but I do with my grandmother. She taught me all kinds of crafts.

That is a very sweet idea! My grandmother was talented with crafts as well. I think that's where I picked up my love of art and handi-crafts. She was always working on something.

My mom was the exact opposite- She made me many beautiful quilts and wall hangings- She crocheted afghans and doilies for my room- She made me a lot of great stuff- and when I was old enough I made quilts with her- Of course nothing to fancy as my little hands didn’t do fancy well- My gram made me a Raggedy Anne and Andy quilt- I loved it- and to this day I have it on the quilt rack my gramps made me- It is in my living room. I have many beautiful pieces of work that both my gram and my mom made for me- I think my favorite is the quilt that my mom and I made together- It is now my daughter’s. I sew with my daughter- and my mom also sews with her- We are pretty crafty- it started with my great gram! You just brought back a lot of great memories for me! Thank you!

When I was younger my mom used to make roses out of plastic strings. I help her out on the finishing part tying up ends but I really never tried my hand in learning to make one. Now when I am older I try to initiate something making patchwork or other handicrafts but my patience run out before I could complete one and it always ends up half done and being kept for good in the box.

Wow. That brings back good memories. My grandma was a quilter, sewer, knitter, crocheter, you name it, she could do it. She had 13 kids, and I have so many cousins I couldn't even tell you how many. She would work on her projects all year long. Everyone would get 2 or 3 hand-made things from her. The only thing I have left from her is a lap quilt. They edges are in tatters because all 3 of my children loved it and used it when they were small. :o)
