Kids do grow up faster than we did now-a-days. It is because our society forces them to do this. With both parents working we sometimes rely on the kids to help us out more. My boys have always had some responsibilities since they were little (just to prepare them for the real world), but some families have to rely on their kids to work and actually help with the family bills. Therefore, society forces them to be the little adults and grow up too fast.

You know, I think that kids are acting like adults earlier and earlier. I went out last night looking for a halloween costume for an adult party I am attending. Every costume that they were selling to teen girls were, excuse my vocabulary, slu**y. There were cat suits that looked like a tiny one peice bathing suit with a tail and ears. There were french maids with skirts so short they couldnt bend over. There was a dorthy (from the wizard of oz) costume and it looked like something a exotic dancer would wear. I dont remember dorthy looking like that! The majority of people buying these costumes were between 11-16. The funniest part was that most of them had a parent with them to pay for it! So, I think if children are growing up and acting like adults to fast, we should take a good look at the parenting skills involved. I dont mean this for every situation, surley there are plenty of teen girls leaving for school in a pair of jeans and a turtle neck only to be going to school in a mini and a tank top. This is why school uniforms should be introduced into all schools everywhere! We as a society are allowing children to grow up faster and faster. With tv and movies to compare themselves to what example are we setting? What good movie out there in recent years has a dorky looking plain girl in jeans and a t-shirt? The way the girls dress are only getting the boys hormones in a bunch. So yes...in answer to your origional question kids and teens are acting like adults.

Yes when I was that age and if I even thought about wearing something like that my mom would have smacked the taste out of my mouth. Not that I could have found clothing like that back then. (I am from Eastern Europe so was VERY different when I was a kid late 80's) Still, companies create clothing per demand and apparently it is in demand. That is sad. 11-16 year old girls should not look like strippers. When I see that I think it is tacky. If parents would not allow their girls to wear that stuff you would see that stuff in stores less and less....

Kids sure are dressing like it. I've seen too many pre-teen girls with thongs hanging out of their pants.

Oh yeah. Kids are growing up so fast these days. Sometimes I talk to my younger cousins and I am surprised at how much they know at the age they are at. I can't believe how and where these kids pick up some of the things that they say and/or do. The world is changing quickly and sadly I don't think it's for the better. Kids need to stay kids for as long as they can. Why are they in such a hurry to grow up these days?

I would say that this depends on situation to situation. Now a days nuclear families have become very common. In these kinds of family to get extra income even the mothers have to work. In such a case children are left with no choice but to learn on their own. Tvs and Internet also have a big influence on kide and teens these days. Young moms who have a lot of work let their kids watch TV without seeing what effect it have on them. In some cases I think even parents force their parents to grow faster. But, if someone is brought up in a joint family he would have a different kind of childhood which is mostly protected. In these cases Kids do not grow faster .

That's what it seems for each generation. My parents asked thsi Question about my generation, I ask a similar Question about my childrens generation. The generation gap has somewhat narrowed though over the past few decades.

yes, I think teenagers these days try to grow up way to fast, when they should enjoy being young, I don't mean being wild, just enjoy being young while you can, because you can't go back.

yes i think kids are trying to grow up much faster then I did. My daughter is 10 and her friends come over and they have their cell phones, and talk about boys and their boyfriends. When I was 10 boys still had cooties. that was only 17 years ago. What changed so much in 17 years?

Definitly. But, that is how it is always going to be. Each Generation will always be ahead of the last generation. If it wernt this way, human kind could not move on. Heartbreaking yes, but very natural.

Yes I think kids are trying to act like adults to early even they are really immature. They want to do adult things even though they are not mature enough to take on the responsibilites of there adult actions. When our parents were coming up people matured faster. But now we don't help our kids mature as they should. They are either thrown into maturity or they are coddled to a point where they are to immature. Either way they are not at a mental maturity to do the adult things that they do.

I think you are right. Kids and teens are trying so hard to be so grown up. Some of the shows they watch and the way they dress is too old for them. They all seem to want to have boyfriends and girlfriends in elementary school. I think they should take their time and love being children first. I am going to try to teach my kids that.
