I know someone who makes gravy by heating up the drippings from whatever it is she wants to make gravy from (bacon, turkey, chicken, whatever). Then she takes 1 cup of warm water and stirs in 3-4 tablespoons of water 1 at a time. She makes sure the flour is mixed in completely and not all clumpy. Then she stirs it into the drippings and brings it to a boil. The boiling thickens it. Personally, I take the drippings over medium-high heat, add a few tables spoons of flour and stir it in good. Let the flour brown a little and then add water or milk a little at a time. Stirring it constantly and working otu any lumps that try to form.
