face to face with a scamming cheat

i was in the train station the other day and i saw this man sitting on a bench next to my bench. then suddenly i heard something that sounded not quite right. he was saying this into his mobile phone: "Hello, I'm calling from Australia and you have won one million dollars. But you must first send us $500 so that we can send you the 1 million dollars" I shot him a glare, to which he immediately looked at me with his shifty beady eyes, immediately clasped his hand over his mouth but continued talking to that person. I can't believe such scammers still exist! Before I could think of what to do, his train in the opposite direction came and he hopped on, still with his hand over his mouth and continuing the conversation. Mylotters are a smart lot so I'm sure you won't get cheated by similar scams, but I feel sorry for those guilible and less educated people who might get taken in! reminds me of those scam letters saying that you have inherited a large sum of money etc etc. there was someone who went all out to punk the scammer back and got some $20 off him instead! haha, but that is not for everyone. you need to be very careful to scam the scammer back. have you come across such scammers in person yourself?

Wow, no I have never KNOWINGLY come accross a scammer in person. That is a crazy story, but it's true, some people scam for a living. But I can't imagine it being easy, esspecially if you ever get caught... Tsk tsk tsk it's really a shame that people are so greedy they would steal from anyone. I wouldnt be greedy enough to fall for a gimmick like that. I could never spend my hard erned money on something that sounds too good to be true, you know??

Ugh I really hate them people I have never come face to face with them but I have received emails and letters from people like that. I have seen shows on tv where desperate women have met guys in chat rooms and it ended up being scams where the guy would ask for money to be able to come where she is to see her. I understand everyone needs a job but I dont think I would be able to live a normal life if I did something like this for a living.

That scammer must be caught on the phone at a bad time. It's hard to believe that someone would actually be so brazen in lying at a public place. If you are sure that he is not having fun or playing "benign pranks" on his friend, you might even want to at least "interrogate" him a bit, making it loud enough for the person on the other line to hear.

OMG how cheeky was he doing that in front of people, actually I haven't heard of them doing that on the phone, I have seen plenty in emails but not on the phone, I do believe a lot of people get caught I just wish people would realize these things are just scams and then these horrible people would be out of business.

Hi squaretile, I haven't come across any such scammers but I did watch a show on Oprah that talked about the Nigerian scammers and all sorts. I also get all these silly emails which I always delete and either report them as spam so they automatically go into my spam folder. There are a lot of online scam jobs too which we have to be careful about.

LOL, you only give a glare and let him off cheating other innocent beings? I would have recorded what he said and sent it to STOMP. The rest I believe will handle by itself. Personally, I have not come across such a scammer but I do ever have some fun with some online scammer. Of course, I ignore the subsequent emails.

I have not actually met one in person. I would have tried to take a picture of him rather than give him a stare. Then send the picture to STORM and see if he dares to continue with such scams! Jerks these people are! I wish people like him get caught! and Fast too! Lest another gullible victim falls prey to their scams!
