Broken promises...

If you or someone you know makes a promise, what has to happen in order for it to be broken. Recently I drove down 140 miles visiting my family. A friend of mine said that they'd promise to make time for me to see me this Wednesday. Driving to see them would be an additional 140 miles. I am currently taking online courses so I have a bit of freedom for the next couple of weeks til my regular classes start. I told them well since I'm coming down on Wednesday I won't be seeing them the weekend before that. In which they decided to spend with some other friends. Now it's Tuesday, and this friend says they have no interest in seeing me anymore...essentially breaking the promise. I don't know if I should just drive back to my apartment or wait it out a day or two where I am at now to see what is up. I felt used, and I told them that. I felt like once they got what they needed out of me (which is another story) they ditched plans with me. I was hurt. Then they explained to me they had every intention on seeing me this Wednesday, but I did something to make them angry in the mean time. (I yelled at them online for not getting back to me like they said they would on something...and they finally did at about 1:30am if you're wonderin why they were angry at me) I guess the real question here is, what do you think has to happen to make it OK to break a promise. I guess in my opinion if I make a promise, you dont break it just because you're mad unless something horrible happened. What do you think?

If everything stayed the same forever, a promise would be easy to keep. But that is not the case. Everything changes! So I think a promise is subject to change also. Personally I never make promises for this reason. And I would never ask anyone to keep a promise either, simply because all things continually change, and a promise contends that everything will stay the same.

We have friends and real or true friends...but if they treat you as their true friend then I don't see any reason why they did such thing. Make promises without even thinking the effort and feeling of a friend who is expecting from so much... Next time make sure who are your friends are...
