How Do You Clip Your Toenails?

This discussion is dedicated to Transdisc, who is my inspiration for this particular discussion which you will agree takes a lot of thought and contemplation to answer. When you clip your toenails, do you sit on a chair and then bend down using a nail clipper to clip them, or do you maybe sit on the floor, grab your foot up and toward you and clip away? I do the later, but then I'm rather flexible from years of doing yoga

This very task is getting harder and harder, I usuall soak my feet first so the nails are nice and soft, I have no problems with my left foot and I have a lot of troublw with my right foot, I am right handed, does this happen to everyone or is it just me??/

This is a funny topic, pyewacket. I usually sit on my bed , bend my knees up and just clip away. Sometimes I do them with my little manicure/pedicure tool that is battery-operated.

Well can't always do serious discussions...LOL...I just did mine last night and also did a bit of a pedicure as well, and painted them with polish--can't for the life of me remember the last time I had un-polished toenails

This is interesting. I have known people that actually use scissors to trim their toenails and also ones that use fingernail clippers. One should always use TOENAIL clippers for this. I grab my feet pulling them to me as I sit in a chair etc. It's like I am sitting crossed legged when I perform this habit. I also clip my toenails straight across the nail making sure not to clip them along with their natural curvature state as thats what I've been taught as a child and have read in a few different medical journals. Clipping them with the natural curve of the toenail actually causes ingrown toenails. Why this effect doesn't occur when we clip our fingernails to their natural curve is beyond me thouigh. Oh well. HAPPY CLIPPING FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I find that if I DO clip my toenails straight across instead of with the curve, THAT'S when I get an ingrown toenail! Plus, the square edge is liable to shred the sheets! ;o)

I have flexible ways of clipping my toenails. If I am sitting on a chair, I will bring up my feet to meet my hands and I will clip the toenails with my knees bent. If I sit on a floor I will bend down and clip the nails. I can also clip while my feet is on the floor and my buttocks on the chair, but it is not very comfortable doing like this. I would prefer bringing my feet towards me.

It is easier just bending one's knee and bringing the foot toward you--we both must be very flexible

Although cutting my toenails is no minor feat. There is a need to have a pair of sturdy bolt cutters to be on hand when it comes time to do the deed (lol). I find sitting on the floor and bringing my foot up is more comfortable for me, than sitting on a chair and bending down. I've never done yoga, but I've always been flexible.

LOL! I didn't even realize that. When I wrote that response I was in and out of a daze from having just woke up. So it was one of those things that happened to pop out of my brain at the spur of the moment.

If I tried to do the latter, I would end up in the hospital. They'd have a hard time getting me on the gurney because my back would probably stay in that position. LOL! I actually clip mine while standing up. I put my foot up on the edge of the tub or on the lid of the commode, and snip away. Boring, huh?

Depends on where I am- Most of the time I’m sitting in a chair with a small garbage can under my foot- and I clip them- and file them. Sometimes I clip them after a bubble bath so I sit on the edge of the tub- Sometimes I’m at work (lol) and I sit in my chair-

I sit on a chair with a waste basket under my foot to catch the clippings. But I pull my foot up, I don't bend down..just lean over a litte, as I am quite flexible also from years of working out and stretching. It is more comfortable for me than the floor. Sometimes I will sit on the toilet with the lid down using the waste basket. It all depends the moon, I guess..lol.

I put my foot on something like the bed or a chair & lean over. It the only way I can get close enough to see them.

I usually sit in a chair or on the end of the bed and bring one foot up to my lap to clip and file, I always do the left foot first just incase that is important...lol.

My husband and I make a date of it. LOL we do each others nails, I first do his and then he does mine, the toes only. I do not like polish on my toes so I do not get a pedacure except my him. He gets the clippers out, and sits in his recliner, I then put a paper bag down to put the clippings in. I do a job, which of coarse is not correct he always wants me to cut one differently. Then we trade places and it is my turn. LOL What a big date. LOL

I would usually sit on my chair and rest my feet on my study desk to clip my toe nails. The hardest to clip would be my big toe as the nail is very hard.

I sit on the edge of my bed or else in a chair and bring my knee up to my chest and trim my toenails that way. This is a pretty interesting discussion. And it's 4 years old. I just stumbled across it today by accident. Again, a very interesting discussion! Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I do my toenails in nail spa only, because I am lazy. I visit nails spa once every 2 months and I don't do anything to my nails other than nail polish....

well...it is quite hard for me...because i am not that flexible...but i found that the best way to do it is after a hot bath so the toenails get a little bit moist than usual...after which i lie in bed...and start clipping...watching TV of course:D

Toenails clipped? I have no need for that at all, my toes are perfectly formed, although my claws do sometimes fall out, but thats only to be expected when I run about all day long. I would have thought that you would go to a feline beautician to have yours done.

LOL..Im sure that I have responded to something very similar to this once before...Although the other one asked what you do with them after they are clipped.... But in responding to this, I sit down beding over to reach them and clip them, or sit on the outside stairs is a comfy position..

I sit on the couch with my foot either crossed over the other leg to hold it up, or on a pillow. I am an obsessive clipper and clip as far as I can, as well as up the sides. I know I'm gonna get myself in trouble one of these days with an ingrown nail, but right now, I catch the edges of the nails before they get too far. I usually end up making the sides of my big toes bleed because I rip so much off the sides. Just a bad habit I have... I'll cut kind of a wedge at the edge, then pick away.

Well, if you really MUST know... after a soak in the tub, I put my (usually right) foot up on the toilet seat lid and use toe nail scissors. When that one's done, I put it down and do the other one in much the same manner. Aren't you glad you asked?
