In my time here on mylot I have read a lot of discussions about members using Firefox as their browser of choice. I have used the Windows IE ever since I first got my computer some 20 plus years ago. I have never had any inkling to switch or to use more than just IE as my browser as I am very happy with it's useage to date. What's the difference between IE and Firefox? What can/does it do that Windows IE can't/doesn't? What are your opinions personally about Firefox versus IE useage? Is their also any down sides to using any other browser with AOL or not? I have lots of questions. How much space would it take up on my puter also? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Firefox is less likely to give you spy ware or so I've been told.. IE is more likely to give you spy ware.. That I do know.. I used IE for the longest time and my computer would mess up badly because of it.. Of course at the time I didn't know much about spy ware or anything like that so I didn't have anything to back me up meaning no spy ware removers or anything like that.. But with Firefox I have not had one problem with it and I've been using that for a few years now.. I do get some problems though when it comes to opening like say like yahoo mail from the messenger I wasn't able to do that, I didn't know why still don't lol... But I think it all has to do with less spy ware issues... I hope this helps!

I use a program installed on my puter for 15 years now called Norton Systems Works. It's an anti-virus as well as spyware/adware remover etc. Its also a program that cleans files for me whenever as well as keep my puter running at top speed etc. So I have no problems with IE and or spyware etc. Never did I think as far as spyware. I am currently using Mozilla Firefox. Previously I have using IE for years and haven't known any other browsers than IE. After that a friend introduced me to Firefox. I found out that using Firefox is more safe. Virus is more difficult to enter Firefox if compared to IE. And it is much easier to open multiple tabs if working with Firefox. It is much more organized. I am able to switch tabs easily. To me that's what I know about the benefits using Firefox. Now I no longer use IE, except for a site that Firefox doesn't permit to open due to security reasons (but not illegal). It means I have two browsers for my internet now. I hope this helps you a little. Have a nice day!

Well I feel that everyone should have a good anti-virus spyware and adware program running at all times. I use Norton Systems WEorks and have never had problems with a virus or spyware etc. So I actually prefer IE. I've never tried any other browser. Am just curious as to the differences and reasons some use it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have read that there are security flaws in IE. I use Firefox. I get less spyware now that I use F'fox. It also has a spell check. I don't know what else is different. But I'll check back to see what others have to say.

I use Norton Systems Works so I don't get spyware as this program deletes them as soon as they show up on my puter. I also have security updates from IE and have yet to experience any flaws as some have mentioned here. Thanks for the response as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well I have a Mac computer to begin with so I can't use Windows, and I've heard so many problems now especially with Windows Vista that I'm sure glad I don't have Windows. Mac computers come with Safari browser, but I did find it limiting and couldn't access a lot of places...so I downloaded Firefox..there are a few glitches with it, but not many...I'm glad I have it now...I also can't really speak about AOL...my friend has that and sometimes will use her computer and couldn't stand it...I have Verizon DSL--How much space would Firefox take? Uh, duh? Not sure--LOL--if I get a chance I'll somehow check for you

Hi webeshere. It is nice that you are satisfied with your present browser. Mostly recommend to use mozilla firefox rather than using internet explorer because it is much safer when compared to IE. The security feature of mozilla is much advanced when compared to IE. Currently, I am using opera as my main browser. It is nice, fast and safer to use too. Otherwise, I am so impressed and grateful with my present browser. Have a nice day and God speed!

hi grandpa, i am using Firefox and had used IE..IE is actually still on my computer but had never used it since i found Firefox..i get convenience with Firefox when using mylot, it has a spelling corrector and it would be easy for me to correct it..i don't know if its just me or what..but i thought IE is downloading files itself on my computer..at the time i am using it i always find some things that i never downloaded and it was downloaded through IE..also i had captured lots of virus during the time and with Firefox i am not experiencing the same..i don't know if it is really IE but i would love to stay with firefox.

I've never experienced downloads unexpectantly using IE for the 20 plus years I've used it so it may have been someone else doing it on your computer. Viruses are mostly accquired from a download or a bad web page. I've not had a virus in many many years either. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

well the thing is you get some cool feature when u use forefox and also that is what is very important now. like you get a spell check when you use the firefox text typer everywhere and u dnt get tht with ie by def. so i tink it is cool . securoty of handling pass. you can set 1 main pass to rem, all pass. type the main adn you get access to all and if u r not the person surfing the pass will not be displayed

The only thing I know about Firefox is that users who want to cheat on myLot by using the copy&paste function can do so with firefox but cannot with IE until they reach the required 500 points.

Hi Grandpa Bob, Firefox is more powerful because of the extensions. You can see e.g. one of my blog articles which I wrote about some of the nice extensions available. myLotting is also faster using Firefox than IE. 8 Firefox extensions you don't want to live without - http://lordwarwizard.blogspot.com/2007/04/8-firefox-extensions-you-dont-want-to.html

well, I use safari when I'm on an iMAC. I've never used firefox before although I've heard it being mentioned. at work, we use internet explorer because we're all on the ibm microsoft windows bandwagon, enriching mr bill gates. whom i have nothing against since he has been doing loads of good, charity wise. In my opinion, it's just a matter of what you're used to and what you have access to. doesn't matter after that. :) cheerio!
