Can anyone help me? We have just moved into our new home and we love everything about it.....except the BUGS!!!!! We now live out in the country and have recently encounter and type of fly new to us, the deer fly, and they are horrible. Wikipedia describes deer flys as: "Deer flies (Chrysops spp.) are flies of the family Tabanidae that can be pests of cattle, horses, and humans. Deer flies are similar to horse-flies, being smaller, having coloured eyes, and with dark bands across their wings. While female deer flies feed on blood, males instead collect pollen. When feeding, females use their knife-like mandibles and maxillae to make a cross-shaped incision and then lap up the blood. They are potential vectors of tularemia and loa loa filariasis. The bite becomes painful immediately." I also found a definition that I can no longer remember the source of that descirbed them as "a hyper agressive biting fly". I have serched the internet extenisively and asked around and all I have found as a way to control them is to wear a hat with double sided tape on the top to catch them, but that is insanely disgusting, I don't want to have to walk around with a sticky patch full of flies on my head. There must be a way to repel, deter, or kill these flys. Please if you know of anything tell me. I am attaching a picture of the horrible things so that if you have these bugs in your area, but by a different name, then hopefully you can help me. These flies are insane, I swear to God that they will follow the car in hopes of biting us when we get out....I am really not kidding, one time 5 of the stuck to my side mirror for like 5 minutes of driving 80km/hr.

Because, Dude, it's way past the point where a fly swatter can help. We have fly swatters. We even have a battery power electric tennis racket that frys the flies.....if you can get them. These flys are crazy fast. And it's not just a few of them. It's not as simple as killing a few flies when you come outsid and then being good, more keep coming. I use Deet bug spray but it doesn't seem to help very much. I am going to try to attach that picture here again, I don't know why it didn't work before.

Check this link to make a trap for deer flies
Take a large, tough and inflatable black ball that gets warm because of the sun’s heat. Considering it a big lure deer flies attack it but in the absence of blood they escape and moves up. But the upper part of the ball is funneled into a plastic jar. Deer
