Simply Understanding the Illegal Immigration...

I received this in my email today and simply had to share it. I think it really puts the whole Immigration problem into perspective. It was written by a woman to a newspaper.
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've meade all the beds, washed the dishes, did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all te things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters:
You are REQUIRED to let me stay in your house,
You are REQUIRED to add me to your family's insurance plan,
You are REQUIRED to educate my kids,
You are REQUIRED to provide other benefits to me and my family
(my husband will do all your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest person, except for the well...you know...I did break into your house!
And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced and bigoted behavior.
Oh Yeah, I DEMAND that you learn MY LANGUAGE so you can communicate with me!!
Why can't people see how rediculous this is??

That's the way they would like us to do things but I for one have started complaining to my phone company, cable company and any other place that wants me to press 1 for english...My main question is why to I have to press one for english....This is the United States....Would like to report that our phone company has now taken that option off the message they have...The longer we keep meeting their demands the more they will demand.....
With people like the jerks at the ACLU we as Citizens of the United States we are going to have to start demanding that our laws that are already on the books be inforced and OUR LAW MAKERS START TO DO WHAT WE WANT DONE...if they don't then when election time comes around kick them out of office so fast that it will take them three weeks to be able to set down...
To often we just set on our hands and say let someone else do it that's why the country has gotten this way..Anyone who doesn't take notice that they are breaking into to our country must have their head in the sand...

I couldn't agree with you more, you would think the United States was half Mexico. Everything is bilingual and it pisses me off as is to have to listen to the automated systems for phone companies and such, but then I gotta press 1 for english, 2 if i'm a girl, 4 if I'm sitting down...lol...you get the picture. It is just a little too much and it doesn't make sense. I haven't been to Mexico, but does anybody know if they have translation signs in English all throught out their country. I'm sure in other countries like France and Spain, you don't have to press 2 for english, you either know the language or you do the best you can. I don't know when it became necessary to acquiesce and give anybody who comes in here whatever they want. Is there anyone out there who is an illegal immigrant or knows somebody who is? I would really like to hear some logic about this topic from somebody on the other side of this topic?

I agree...we do need to start taking back our country. I can't tell you the number of items I've bought that have the labels in English and in Spanish...and don't even ask about instructions...they come in 30 page books with every language you can think of.
I just want our ppl, in our country, doing our jobs and making our products. Maybe thats harsh and un-neighborly but I'm so tired of hearing about all the illegals that are mad b/c they don't like us stepping on their rights. I look at it like this...If they want rights, go get them in their own countries.

And another thing, it's not like we're getting the top, productive people from mexico over here, we are getting a lot of their criminals and not to be stereotypical, but a lot of the ones that come over and start popping out kids in order to stay. I know not everyone comes for that reason, but alot do

I wish I could agree with you and I wish I could tell you it was that easy.
Yes, we should protect our borders and yes, it is illegal and a crime.
But these people have nothing to go back to. They aren't trying to take anything away from you and me. They are trying to provide for their family. THey don't HAVE JOBS to go to. Mexico is BROKEN. Their economy is in horrid condition, crime is rampant, and they don't have jobs. These people are just trying to LIVE. They come here and they DO work that americans won't do. Are you willing to be a migrant worker? Are you willing to work in a dirty factory? They do these things. Without them, many US Farms would GO OUT OF BUSINESS if they had to pay YOU the wage YOU would ask to pick grapes or melons. They do fill a need. And they are PEOPLE too. They come here because America accepts them, and sometimes that is under the table. They risk their lives.
And now you want to kick them out? That's pretty hard. Some have lived here for DECADES, had families, who are now American Citizens. Some have built a good life for themselves and they have nothing to go to if we kick them out. We should have done a better job from the beginning, but trying to round people up like cattle, and dump them into a country that has NOTHING to offer them - who wins there? The price of your groceries just went up. The price of many items you buy just went up. Families are torn apart, and children separated from their mothers. SO tell me, who wins here?

Tell the millions of legal Americans that have had their jobs moved to Mexico that the illegals have nothing to go back to.

I understand your point but it doesn't hold water with me. That is the same as saying anyone who has a hard life or grew up in a bad area should be allowed to break the laws with no consequences.
I also agree that some of the countries are broken. You used Mexico as an example...ok so should we move all the ppl out of Mexico and move them here? The only option is for them to start working on fixing Mexico so they do have a decent place to live.
They also do not do work that Americans won't do...they do the same work that we will do for so little money that the migrant bosses hire the cheaper labor. The reason they can work for so little money is b/c there is no Social Security taken out, no taxes taken out, and all the other goodies Americans have taken out of every paycheck.
You say they come here and America accepts them...No, they sneak here and break the law doing it. If they want to be here so badly, do it legally, abide by our laws, contribute to our country just like any other citizen does.
Your right some have been here for decades, have had kids and some are still not citizens. Now their upset that we're tired of supporting them. You ask who wins if we ship them back? We win by having our own country back, our crime goes down b/c the ones commiting crimes that are illegals are gone, our economy improves b/c our money isn't being sent to another country to increase their economy, our work force improves b/c their are more jobs available and our housing improves b/c their are more homes to use.
Here's something else: When Hurricane Katrina happened and all those ppl became homeless...how is it that they, who were mostly American born ppl, were homeless while illegals were living here and getting assistance?

I have received that same email.
It does tend to put things in the proper perspective.
There is a sheriff in Georgia that has started deportation proceedings against over 40 (I don't remember the exact number, maybe 43 give or take) illegal immigrants. Imagine that, a law enforcement officer who has the backbone to uphold the current laws. We need about 5 million more like him.

What does it say for our mentality when we allow criminals to dictate to us? Surely there are some elected officials who can see what they are doing and what a bleak future is ahead of us if something is not done NOW to stop them!

Oh my - this is probably going to make me very unpopular, but the more I read these type of discussions I get so mad! So please - tell me - what the hell is wrong with welcoming different people and cultures, into your country? AFter all, America is one very large country, and only a few hundred years ago, it was populated purely by native, non-English speaking American Indians - and who cared about them and their rights, when the immigrants moved in? And as for learning new languages? It broadens the mind - helps you learn about something outside your narrow little world - so what is wrong with it?
I live in Europe - everything her is multi-cultural - we all speak at least two or three languages - we all learn them from early childhood, and travel extensively to neighbouring European countries where the language/religion/culture/government changes every few hours as we cross borders. We have also recently had large amounts of people moving here from Africa and India/Pakistan, who have bought their own culture/religion and food etc here.
And rather than harming us, - it has bought us a greater culture, knowledge and understanding of the world around us, of other people, and their problems. It an oly be good - not bad.
My job works with refugees - you cannot imagine the stories I hear and the traumas some of these people have left behind, so to blithely say that people ought to "stay put" and make their own country a better place, is the height of ignoramce. I guess it is because so many Americans are so ignorat of everything outside their own little world..........I read somewhere that only 12% of American people have passports, which scares the living daylights out of me - no wonder so many are so narraw, and judgemental, and scared of"foreingers" and change.
So please - open up a bit - look at the world in a little less blinkered a way. These people are not all criminals, and if you let them, they could bring a change for the better to your land - some even might become your friends.

You ask what's wrong with welcoming ppl and cultures into this country...I don't mind welcoming ppl into our country providing they come LEGALLY. When they sneak over here they are breaking the law...and showing disrespect for our laws. Why should I have to follow the law and they shouldn't?
I agree that some come from horrible places but running away isn't going to fix it...and bringing it here isn't going to fix it either. As for speaking a different language, most ppl born in this country are taught english growing up, its what is taught in schools (until high school where you can take other languages as electives) and most work places operate in english. If ppl want to live here they need to learn the language. If I moved to Japan, I wouldn't expect them to learn english for me...I'd need to learn Japanese.
Maybe things in Europe are different but here we have illegals coming from every direction, getting on assistance, breaking the law, demanding rights and, oh lets not forget, working for cash so they can avoid having to pay taxes that the rest of us have to pay for their assistance.
I don't feel I'm narrow minded, judgemental, scared of foreigners or iggnorant...I'm just tired of having our country taken over by illegals that want a free ride and I refuse to hide my head in the sand.

my main problem isn't the fact that illegal immigrants want to come over here, I just don't think it's right that when they do they get many health and tax benefits for free that us American Citizens do not get. I don't think that part of it is fair. I am very open-minded to learn new things but not when it is forced upon me

"Why can't people see how rediculous this is?? "
What is ridiculous is when people try to put into simple terms, a complex situation.
How about this one?
I own a fruit stand. A starving child "steals" a piece of fruit. I guess I should go off on that child and call a swat team because they HAD THE NERVE to take some of what I have.
Never mind that I am making a ton of money of this fruit stand and throw away a trash can full of spoiled fruit each day because I can't sell it all.

Ok, so using your simple example: Your one starving child turns into 12 million children all stealing a piece of fruit and all of a sudden you have no fruit, no fruit stand and they are demanding you go find them more fruit! Let's not forget that now you are the one that is starving and have no money!
Thanks for Posting!

I do appreciate your point of view. I guess thats why we have so many different problems is b/c there are so many different points of view as well as so many different ppl.
I look at MyLot as a place to voice my opinion and others voice theirs. Not everyone agrees.
Good Luck with yours too.

Are you starving? I'm not.
Listen, I'm not saying I don't understand the problems that come with immigration and illegal immigration. I just don't agree with the extreme points of view and I don't agree with judging all illegal alliens as harshly as some do.
I'm offering up my point of view. That's all.
I've learned (the hard way) not to argue certain topics here in myLot. I post my thoughts and move on. So this is the last you'll here from me on this particular string.
Good luck with your discussion.

A friend sent me this a few months ago, and I did not realize how easy it made the whole thing to understand ...and to demonstrate that we are idiots.
I don't understand, and I personally am tired of it. I but my butt at work to get very little money and terrible benefits. Then I find that people come here from other countries and get better medical coverage then I do...for free.
I think the whole thing sucks, but in our passion to be politically correct...we are stupid.

I agree...We have turned a blind eye to this for so long that now it is a bigger mess to clean up. The way I see it...we either need to fix the problem and clean up the mess or give up our country to the illegals that are overrunning it.

i feel as you do in some aspects, I wish we as American people can go to another country and get a fresh new identity and credit line no matter what the situation was back home. It has gotten out of control and it doesn't make sense how they are still getting in? I'm more worried about terrorists seizing the vulnerability as a way to get into the country posing as an illegal immigrant.
