Sunflowers in my garden

Pretty sunflower - This sunflower stands about 6 feet tall. It's a good thing it was kind of droppy this morning, so I could take it's picture.

I just wanted to share some of my garden photos this morning. We had a few hours without rain, so I could go out and enjoy them. This sunflower just peeks into my bathroom window. That window is 6 feet above the ground, so you know this flower is pretty tall! The funny thing is, it's not the tallest one out there! I love the burnt orange of the outside petals. It just looks so warm and inviting. I guess that's why sunflowers are one of my favorites.

OMG is that a sunflower, I have never seen a red sunflower before, that is amazing and to be so tall, you must have good soil where you are...I have only ever seen yellow sunflowers, that is very beautiful.

Yup, that's a sunflower. I've grown yellow, red, and big puffy flowered (called Teddy bears) sunflowers. It's fortunate that I love in the GREAT state of Iowa--one area that has some of the richest soil in the world! If you'd like, I could send you some of the seeds after they devolop, and you can have some of your own! :)

Well there you go I have never even heard of a red sunflower, thank you for your very generous offer of seeds but our customs would probably put me in jail as thing like that are not allowed to be brought into Australia maybe the reason for never seeing one but thank you ever so much you are so generous...

Probably a good plan not to send them, then. That's too bad. I'll just have to keep taking photos of them and share them with you that way. :)

I love sunflowers, too. But I've had no luck growing them. The chipmunks and squirrels eat them before they get very far out of the ground! I've thought it would be auesome if our energy came from sunflower oil, then our country would be covered by fields and fields of beautiful flowers! What do you think?

Wouldn't that be lovely? Actually, in North Dakota they raise sunflowers. They weren't blooming when we were their earlier this summer, but I can just imagine the fields now, in all their sunshine glory!!!

What a beautiful sunflower! Does the offer of seeds go for anyone? I'd love to plant that wonderful flower in my garden next year. We have several sunflowers, but none quite like that!

You know, one summer I planted sunflowers and some ornamental millets next to my garage. The birds were in hi heaven!!! I don't think I filled my bird feeders once that summer, as they were eating everything on my plants! LOL!

hi creematee, i too love sunflowers but we are not having any red colored flower. we are having orangish and yellow. they look so beautiful and they change their face towards sun as the sun moves . they are really beautiful ones. i love roses too. we are having a garden but we having vegatbales and fruit trees too in it. ofcourse we are having flowers but veggies to. sunflowers are one of my favourites too. i love them. my father takes care of the garden and he spend his quality time over there. i too love to sit and read and sketch there some times. i love to sit and simply watch the beauty of the flowers also at times.

Sounds like a beautiful place to be! I'm glad that you take the time to enjoy the flowers. Not many people seem to do that anymore. My sunflowers have fallen with all the wind and rain we have been having. If we could getjust a few days of sunshine, I'm sure they will be standing up again. It's so sad to see them lying on the ground.

I have a friend who is obcessed with sunflowers, her kitchen is decorated in sunflower mode and we always have an eye out for something different in sunflowers for her. I like sunflowers, they are very commanding flowers seeing as how they are so big. My grandmother used to grow holly hocks right next to the door, they are huge flowers too, but they used to draw the bees, so it was a place you had to be careful.

I would love to see your friends Kitchen. :) I bet it is such a cheerful place!!! Not all sunflowers grow to be so tall. There are dwarf varieties that only grow about 3 feet tall. One of the sunflowers that is growing with these that I planted (a variety pack) is only 18 inches tall! Still bright, Still happy, just short! :)

I need all of your sunflower growing secrets, lol. My husband has been planting them and planting them (he planted 100 of them!) and they are not growing like they should! They are only 6 inches high and should be much bigger by now! I will take any suggestions you have!
