Selling on Ebay

I listed a few items on Ebay over the past few days and I was excited because at first I got some bids and one of the items went up kind of high! I was like... wow I am making money cool.... but then...... for some reason... three people retracted their bids on three different auctions of mine!! I couldn't believe it. I thought you weren't allowed to even do that... so now they are back down low and some are without bids :( Lol stupid Ebay. Has this ever happened to you?

Yeah if it is less then 46 hours you can cancel it. I did it once because I entered to high of a price. I know after someone makes so many retractions you can somehow band them from biding from you. I'm nor sure how though.I'm not to happy with ebay myself right now.

I bought something on there and it was a huge to-do because the product was missing a large piece. The seller tried to tell me the piece never came with it and it worked, but actually when I turned it on it just smelled like it was on fire and I couldn't even use it because of the missing piece. She was such a pain in the butt to deal with and refused to refund my $10 as if she was going to go broke over it. I sent it back and eventually paypal made her send the money back... but jeez I understand the frustration you are probably feeling!

I have seen stories on the news about the scams on eBay. This is a big trick. A friend of mine had it happen to her. I don't really know how anyone can stop these people from doing this.

I did sell over 200 items on eBay and it never did happen to me. Unless they changed the rules... in the past you had to give a very good excuse to eBay for retracting a bid... and you were only allowed to do it a few times. The only thing which has ever happened to me... was on one of my last items. Somebody won the bid for it and then claimed that he could not afford to pay for it. I reported him to eBay and he got ban from eBay. One factor you might have problems with... is that if you are new to eBay... people will be reluctant to buy from you until you establish a reputation via your feedback. Your feedback needs to be 100% positive in order to be successful. Selling stuff that people really want does also make it a lot easier. And you should always have a picture of the item that you are selling. With a complete written description. And always let them know what you will charge for postage.

One time a long time ago I had won an auction for a few dollars (it was for some pillows) and then I got the invoice and they were charging over $50 for shipping. I told them I couldn't pay that (especially since they were like $10 each new at the store) and that was the only time I didn't pay for something. They didn't get mad though so I guess it worked out okay. Now I know to ask about shipping before I bid on anything. Yeah, I have 100% feedback and everything. I am getting more bids now that the auctions are coming to a close. I always make sure to include a picture and describe it as well as I can.

That's the way eBay works these days. It is a mind game. Everyone waits the last minute in the hope to get it for cheap. I auction things for 5 days. And it is only in the last 6 hours that people start bidding like crazy. You also have to plan your hours. If your auction finish in the middle of the night... you will miss out on many bidders... because they are in bed. Weekends are no good either. Most bidders do it from the computer in their office or in early evenings from their home computer. So your auction has to finish on a weekday between 10AM and 10PM to get maximum biddings.

Oh really? I haven't had much experience with ebay but I am researching on it and considering if I should sell some goodies there. I did try long time ago one time selling a top which was brand new but I didn't want it anymore. I got no bid and the item turned out wasn't sold. I was quite disappointed, to be honest. Therefore, if I try selling something there this time. I would have to have my lower down my expectation so that I won't experience too much disappointments.

Well, just a tip.. if you decide to sell clothes again it really helps to put it in a lot instead of selling the pieces seperately (as long as they are about the same size) I find that more people will bid that way.

Oh really? Because in that way, people might feel it's such a good deal? *laughs* Thanks a lot for your tip! I think I am going to start with skin care products (which I personally found great) first and explore further! Good luck with your ebay selling too!

This is very common on ebay . You may find many people bidding on your products but all of a sudden you just loose them half the way because you are not the only on ewho is seling the products thee are many, so first just check the prices of your competitor an dthen start playing the game which can help you much better. you will learn many such things but as time passes. All the best with your new BIZZ

Thank you. I am selling lots of clothing mostly, and nobody else is selling what I have up there so I dunno. My prices are super cheap too since I would just give them away to charity otherwise. Hopefully they will go back up though and I can make some money :)

No--- I wonder why they retracted- Unless they found what you had on e-bay cheaper than their bids- I think when people retract it looks badly on them as e-bay buyers- I also think that if they abuse that they can be banned from the site- not that that helps you-! Sucks!

yes, you can easily retract a bid. However, ebay tracks who does this. and if you do it too often, then you can get banned. My experience with ebay is never get excited until the last day. I do track watchers, though.Usually, if an item has a lot of watchers AND a lot of traffic, people will bid, and many times they do at the last minute. But with ebay, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. There are no guarantees. But my experience is that people will come in at the last minute. And if an item has little traffic and no watchers, I don't expect it to sell at all.

Luckily I have a quite a few watchers on one of my auctions and now I'm getting more and more bids because it's ending today. I get impatient about it lol Thanks.

No i have never sold or bought from e-bay,however i do have an account and have thought i would.I have heard buying things from e-bay is sometimes good and sometimes bad.I watch those judge shows every day and a lot of people on e-bay are decent people and others are rip offs,so if i were to do anything i would sell like you do instead of buy anything.i am sorry this happened to you because the people that bid should not have backed out.I have heard from these judge shows that people coming to court have been ripped off.Thats the sad thing about e-bay ,you never know Who you are dealing with..Anyway maybe someone will bid and buy ,I do hope so for your sake ,maybe some honest person will actually bid..I know that it can be very disappointing for you.Best of luck to you.

I have had a few bad experiences with buying, but also good ones so I do buy sometimes. The most expensive thing I have ever bought was $50 and that was on something I really really wanted. I usually keep it cheap though so I won't be risking much if I have a problem.

once a person makes a bid, they have to keep it. You can give them a bad rating, for failing to follow through. Also contact Ebay, they need to know also. They usually will contact the person and let them know they are in violation. Once a person renigs, they are in violation.

I guess they can now retract a bid within 48 hours of placing it. Kind of stinks and I don't think it should be allowed, but whatever!

I have only sold a few things on Ebay. I don't really know a lot about it. But I am like you, I didn't even know that you could retract a bid. I wonder if you are charged a fee for doing it. I hope so.

I don't think so... I was so confused about it until I learned you could do that without any consequence. I would never bid on something I wasn't absolutely sure I could pay for. One girl sent a message telling me her mom wouldn't let her bid on it, but she did anyway, but then retracted it because her mom found out. Lol silly people.

Dear wooitsmolly Don't worry it happens on ebay. From when did you started selling on ebay ?? I started on 4th October 2004. In earlier days this kind of thing happens but you should not loose heart. You will definitely see good results on ebay too. Also put your items in buy it now format so that anyone can buy it then and there without entering into auction. All the best to you with your selling on ebay. I would love to see your store .. if you want to share just tell me your user id on ebay or send me the shop link .. You can view my shop link here -- http://stores.ebay.in/touchnshine

Unfortunately, this can happen in Ebay. I have done a fair amount of trading on there both buying and selling and if anybody bids on something they have a certain amount of time to retract their bids. I hope your items creep back up again. :-)

I gave up on E-bay. I was selling clothes and odds and ends around the house. I had many people win bids and then say they can't pay. The listing prices and paypal fees were too high and I wasn't making any money. The shipping costs where bigger than I thought too and people would e-mail me wanting them even lower. I do buy stuff from there and have never done any of these things to other people but I had many people to this to me. So I don't bother anymore at all. I do find that video games, systems and electronics sell the best there though.
