Strange Nicknames on MyLot

I often scroll through some of the discussions to find something I'd like to respond to. I find it kind of puts me off when I come across some of the nicknames that are so complicated and long. I prefer to respond to discussions by people with names that are not so difficult. I am not a one-finger typist, but I am by no means as speedy as I used to be(arthritis). I just think they should choose less complicated names. What about you?

It does kind of amuse me when I see names really incredibly long, and makes me wonder like how the heck did they ever come up with it...For ease though, if I want to add in the person's name into my reply and it's a humdinger of a long one, I just do the ole copy/paste of the name...that way I can also be sure its spelled right

Dang, i really need to hit that 500 mark so i can cut and paste too. I think it stupid i got to wait until 500 before i can cut and paste, why cant it be like 250? I know they do it to fight spamming but common, what spammer is gonna pump out 250 topics and replies? Well at least i passed the halfway mark!

I hadn't thought of that, pyewacket. Thanks for the idea. I will try and remember that.

That or you could just say "hey you" and skip the whole complicated screen name bit. I like ones with meaning, i use this screen name for many things i do online, just differant passwords.

I just always try to refer to everyone by name, socorban. I feel that it is much more polite.

i think the purpose of mylot in limiting those who have the ability to copy/paste being exclusively for those who reached the 500 post mark is meant to screen out those who just want to make easy money... suppose they don't have that limit.. wouldnt that increase the spam posts?

What you say makes a lot of sense, jlara. This would work as a preventative measure to guard against those who want to make the quick money.

How about mine? lol. Do you need a simple nickname than this? If you are too tired calling my nickie or if you think its too long, you can just say 143 or ILU. As simple as that. But my lovely username can get me into trouble at times. I have had rejections on friend requests because of my username. When i request them and they just see my 143 username, they simply press that deny button or keep me pending thinking that its a kind of flirting. I never gave myself a thought that usernames would matter in friendship. So, if you have troubles writing long usernames, just shorten them, they would understand. Or you can even say like "Hi there" or "hello friend" There are all kinds of usernames here, some of them are ridiculous, some are funny, some are boring, some are short n simple and some make no sense at all. Just don't bother too much about it. It can no way hinder you from doing what you wanted. cheers!

I"ll give you this much, ILU, your user name does get attention! At first glance it does seem kind of personal, but I wouldn't allow that to keep me from being your friend.

Yea there are some weird names on mylot, maybe some people think mine is weird lol. It is just my first initial and last name, which I use for most of my nicks.

I am referring mostly to the ones that don't seem to make any sense at all. Some just have no rhyme or reason.

The net offers us all opportunities to rename ourselves. Some people are creative and some people feel that a short handle does not sum them up well. You can use the Speech feature on your computer to help with cutting back on the neccessity for excessive typing. Or you can simply shorten it in your responses to the first few letters or first word of their username.

I'm not crazy about them either. I made mine something I would remember which is the first part of my name and my birth year.

I never really thought about the nicknames on myLot. It doesn't bother me at all if people want to have long complicated names, nor do I care if they want to have short and sweet ones. I use this nickname for just about everything I do online because it is easy for me to remember. Others' nicknames never deter me from responding to their discussions. To each their own, I say.

The length of someone's name doesn't bother me because I don't normally type in there name when I respond to their discussion. However there are some names that give me the creeps that in most cases I don't even read the discussion unless the title grabs my attention. Do you find some names creepy?

I go for the discussion which interests me and i generally do not wrtite their names in my reply so its not hard to reply the discussion for me. but yes I do not feel so fast to read their names and sometimes i like the discussion but not the name as it takes time to read properly so i reda the discussion and reply. i ofetn get back to them seeing their avatar and discussion.

well now,i one think the names aren't so important... i mean we can't see each other's mugs here, right?and we can't be acting like we're face 2 face, our interaction being limited to using words...now this i think it counts, the topics, the opinions, these are the things that make me consider one discussion or another. Not the names or the icons, these i barely look at...
