Connecting to the internet via DSL is a very rewarding experience. When we finally give up that dial up connection and move to the world of DSL, it seems that many opportunities have opened up to us. We can suddenly search webpages more quickly, download things quicker, and do many other things that seemed impossible with our original dial up connection. However, with new technology comes new complications. When we connect to the internet through DSL, we are doing so through the use of a DSL modem. This is often a new and confusing piece of hardware. One of the most common DSL modems is the Westell DSL modem. It is essential that you understand a few basic things regarding this particular DSL modem if you have one as part of your home and/or office network. Here, we will take a brief look at the lights on the Westell DSL modem and how they relate to your DSL connection. The lights included on this modem are as follows: Power Ready Link Activity 1. The power light is the easiest to understand...if there is a light, yopu have power running to the Westell DSL modem. 2. The Ready light means that indicates the connectivity progress. 3. The Link light indicates establishes whether or not data can be sent via the internet. 4. The Activity light also refers to the data that is being transmitted. This is a general description of these lights.
